Romelu Lukaku sat out Manchester United's final training session before their Champions League game against Juventus in Turin on Wednesday.

Mourinho highlighted the contribution of his second-half substitute Ander Herrera as the key to United's revival.

Mourinho has spent more than £60 million on centre-backs since taking over in 2016 but Smalling was still trusted to play almost 50 games last season and the 28-year-old has been a regular in the team again this term.

Serie A leaders Juventus are top of Group H on nine points, with United second on four. That was another issue addressed by both men.

Manchester United Chris Smalling has said he and his teammates were "in awe" of Juventus in their recent Champions League clash, and has challenged the players to put things right in their return meeting.

United have kept just one clean sheet in the Premier League this season and their leaky defence was regularly exposed by Bournemouth. If he takes the armband away, it doesn't change anything for me.

Thai businessman Srivaddhanaprabha and four others were killed in a helicopter crash outside the King Power Stadium last weekend. The Leicester manager spoke of his pride on Saturday (local time) and said his players had grown as people over the past week.

"I'm trying to find a balance where we develop the team in the second and first phase of attack and we develop the talented players that we have without losing the balance".

"When you reach that level or are nearly reaching that level is when you become a top player. I'm still playing and I'm really happy to play", he said.

Saturday's 2-1 victory at Bournemouth was the third time in four league matches that United have recovered from a losing position, grabbing the victor in the second minute of stoppage time on this occasion.

" We felt like he was the one who would win us game, coupled with the fact he has ill-discipline in the middle of the park".

Former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes Rashford warrants a regular starting spot in the Red Devils team to continue his development at Old Trafford. Sanchez is the classic example of Manchester United's issues but he put his career in jeopardy by going for the better money.

'It doesn't matter what happens here or in Valencia, there are two more matches to play and we can still qualify so I think we will fight for qualification until the last match.
