No Mega Millions Winner, Jackpot Jumps To $654 Million

A Mega Millions $548 million jackpot awaits lottery players when numbers are drawn for Friday night.

Mega Millions jackpot prize totals climb each drawing when no players claim a flawless six-number match to the drawing. Players who buy $2 tickets face extremely long odds, with a one in 302.5 million chance of matching all six numbers.

The jackpot has grown since July, the last time a winning ticket was sold.

October is beginning to look a lot like Christmas for gamblers, and one Chicago newsstand is playing Santa, handing out 548 free lottery tickets in the Loop Friday ahead of a record-setting prize drawing.

The lump sum payout will be at least $309 million, Mega Millions said.

Saturday's jackpot has a cash option of $179.4 million.

The largest jackpot in Mega Millions history was won in March 2012.

The $470 million prize came with a $265.3 million cash payout option, according to Mega Millions. They agreed to split the winnings and continue working.

The Powerball drawing is Saturday night and the jackpot is $314 million.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
