Flu vaccination rates for Minnesota children drop with age — CDC

The CDC estimates that there have been between 140,000 and 710,000 flu-related hospitalizations since 2010.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends all people 6 months of age and older get immunized against flu.

The number of deaths last winter is higher than any flu season going back to 1976-1977, before which there is not easily available data, according to the AP. The high dose flu shot is also available and may help seniors mount a more robust response to vaccination.

For the upcoming flu season, public health officials are more optimistic that they will not see the same number of deaths due to the illness this year. Yearly vaccination provides the best protection against the flu through the entire flu season.

Federal health officials have a message for long-term care employers and employees: Don't underestimate the importance of influenza vaccination.

The SD Dept. of Health recommends getting your flu shot as early as possible to protect you through the entire flu season. When you are sick, keep your distance from others too, and stay home from work, school, and errands.

Adams said that getting the flu shot by the end of October is not just about keeping yourself safe and healthy, it's also about community. The flu can increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes and other deadly complications. Severe complications can happen to anyone, but may be more likely to happen to people who have certain chronic medical conditions, or in elderly persons.

At 94.8%, vaccination coverage was highest in health workers who were required to get the flu shot and lowest (47.6%) in settings where the vaccine wasn't required, promoted, or offered.

Erik Spoelstra Pushing Miami Heat to Trade for Jimmy Butler
On Wednesday it was reported that Butler prefers to be traded to the Miami Heat , who were reportedly aggressively pursuing him . The Heat enter '18-19 with a almost identical roster as last season, when they went 44-38 to secure the No. 6 seed.

"We don't know what's going to happen, but we're seeing more encouraging signs than we were early previous year", CDC flu expert Dr. Daniel Jernigan told the AP. It takes two weeks for the body to build full immunity to the flu after the vaccination, which is why getting vaccinated early is important.

Parents will be asked to sign a consent form allowing their child to be vaccinated against flu at school. "Everyone 6 months and older, even healthy teens and young adults, should get vaccinated".

Dr Julie Yates, head of screening and immunisation at PHE South West said: "We know the flu vaccine is very effective in children".

Last year, 180 children died from the flu.

Flu vaccines can not cause flu illness.

What about if you're already feeling the flu coming on?

This year is the 100th anniversary of the worst pandemic in human history, the Spanish flu that killed 50 million to 100 million people during the winter of 1918-1919.

There are two versions of the standard vaccine to consumers this year.
