Tropical depression forms in the Atlantic; three other disturbances tracked

Subtropical storm Leslie formed on Sunday.

Tropical Depression Kirk is continuing to move west across the Tropical Atlantic, but does not now pose any threat to land, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said late Sunday.

11 a.m. UPDATE: Tropical Storm Kirk continues its westward trek, and is now moving west at 21 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 miles per hour with higher gusts. While little change in intensity is expected during the next day or so, due to dry air and moderate shear, some strengthening as an extratropical low is likely due to baroclinic forcing.

A wave rolling off the African coast and 500 miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands is growing, however, the center said in its 8 a.m. advisory.

The estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb (29.68 inches).

According to an advisory early Monday morning, that low-pressure system roughly midway between Bermuda and the Bahamas has a 40 percent chance of development in the next five days. According to the NHC, this system is now being hindered by some upper-level winds, but those winds are expected to die down in the next couple of days, giving the system a chance for some development.

A discussion from the NHC reads: "This forecast takes Kirk toward the Lesser Antilles in 3 to 4 days and interests there should monitor the progress of this system". After that time, with the development of the new low to the north, Leslie will likely move east until it becomes absorbed.

Tropical Depression Eleven has been downgraded to Remnants of Eleven.

Kirk has maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour and is moving west at 24 miles per hour. The disturbance was battling wind shear just as TD 11 and won't be developing over the next day or so.
