North, South Korea agree to jointly bid for 2032 Olympics

North, South Korea agree to jointly bid for 2032 Olympics

Almost 3,000 journalists watched her giving directions to South Korean President Moon Jae-in himself as the two Korean leaders stood on stage facing North Korean honor guards.

But discussions over how to implement the vague commitments have since faltered.

"The ball now is in President Trump's court about whether he will agree to joint political declaration on the end of Korean War in order to move the stalled denuclearization process along", said Daryl Kimball, executive director of the Washington-based Arms Control Association.

Moon's ongoing visit is the first by a South Korean head of state to Pyongyang in 11 years.

In the 30-minute edit of Moon's first two days as Kim's special guest, there was no mention of the United States, or denuclearization, or Trump.

Kim's late father, Kim Jong Il, had promised reciprocal visits when South Korean leaders visited him in Pyongyang in 2000 and 2007.

The South Korean president, Moon Jae-in, can be well satisfied with his third face-to-face meeting with Kim Jong-un in Pyongyang this week, which has brought relations between the two countries to their closest and warmest since the end of the Korean War.

On Wednesday, Moon was scheduled to visit Mansudae Art Studio - an entity that was blacklisted by the Security Council past year for earning cash to fund its arms program by erecting monuments and military facilities in African countries.

The leaders also announced a series of steps to deepen bilateral exchanges in the economy, culture and sport.

President Trump took time to celebrate last night in light of the latest news coming out of the Korean Peninsula.

Doug Jones: Senate should compel Kavanaugh's friend to testify
In particular, he has always treated women with decency and respect. "This hiding of this, I think, is very, very suspect", Sen. Hill supports Ford's request that the FBI investigate the allegation before agreeing to testify at any Capitol Hill hearing.

North Korean participation had dominated the build-up to Pyeongchang 2018 following security concerns over missile tests conducted by the North.

It's unclear if North Korea will unveil nuclear production facilities other than Yongbyon, and disclose the location of its mobile launchers that can fire intercontinental ballistic missiles that can reach the American homeland.

The highly choreographed crowds remain a regular phenomenon in North Korea, where the state routinely mobilizes the populace as a way of keeping them loyal and disciplined, analysts say.

It also was unclear what "corresponding steps" North Korea wants from the U.S.to dismantle its nuclear site.

It would be the first such trip by a North Korean leader. A commentary run by the ruling party newspaper on Tuesday, the day Moon arrived, took care of that - blaming Washington's "stubborn" and "gangster-like" demands for the North to unilaterally give up its nuclear weapons as the sole cause of the breakdown in U.S.

At the summit, the two Koreas agreed to begin construction to reconnect railways and roads linking the countries within this year.

The two sides also agreed to normalize operations at Mount Kumgang, and at a similarly shuttered southern-invested complex in North Korea, the Kaesong industrial zone.

"The International Olympic Committee (IOC) welcomes very much the intention of the Republic of Korea and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea to jointly host the Olympic Games 2032", IOC President Thomas Bach told insidethegames in a statement.

Later on Wednesday, Moon is scheduled to watch the North's signature "Brilliant Fatherland" Mass Game, with a formation of glowing drones, lasers and stadium-sized gymnastics shows created to glorify the country.
