Apple releases iOS 12

Apple releases iOS 12

Apple iOS 12 will be available for download tonight for the general public. Along with some exercise features, such as the ability for it to detect when you start and stop working out, there's also (finally) a Podcasts app. It's officially releasing iOS 12, watchOS 5, and tvOS 12.

Notifications can now also be grouped and managed by app.

The Shortcuts app, however, is only available on the App Store, alongside apps like Pages, Numbers, and Keynote under Apple's developer page.

You might have to wait few moments until the new version is searched. Highlights include performance improvements, Screen Time, new Siri Shortcuts, changes to Apple News, Memojis, new Animojis for the iPhone X, and upgrades to Apple Music. We'll be publishing coverage of the new features in all these upgrades in the coming weeks and months, so stay tuned. Plug in your device, make sure you're connected to WiFi and you can get started.

One of the big themes of Apple's software releases this fall is the opening up of Siri.

Once you've downloaded and installed the new software, check out our guide to the 15 best features iOS 12 has to offer. AR experiences can now be shared with other iOS 12 users, for example, or kept persistent-tied to an object or location, ready to reappear in the same spot in the future.

How Puerto Rico Made Tragedy an Opportunity for Its Tourism
Thousands of water bottles left on an naval base tarmac in Ceiba, Puerto Rico that were meant for Hurricane Maria survivors. The study also found that the elderly and low-income Puerto Ricans were the most affected by the storm.

As usual, Siri gets a little smarter in iOS 12: Apple says Siri is now better at answering questions about motorsport, celebrities, and food (try "how much caffeine is there in coffee?").

If you use this travel planning app, you can ask Siri to show you your flight details and upcoming plan details.

This means not all devices that run iOS 10 can run the iOS 12. You can use these new Memoji and Animoji on iMessage, and on FaceTime - which, by the way - are getting major updates. Apple has promised that even older iPhones, like the 6s, etc will work smoothly with the new iOS 12. For everyone else, the update can be found by going to the Watch app on your iPhone and selecting General followed by Software Update.

Some of the changes are an extension of Apple's effort to help you limit the amount of time spent staring at your screen. With day one adoption of both Siri shortcuts and Siri face integration on the Apple Watch, CARROT Weather makes for a wonderful demonstration of how valuable this new, extended Siri can be in all its various forms. Anyone would think Apple was about to ditch the Home button on the iPad Pro models.

Apple has improved Do Not Disturb in iOS 12, too, letting you turn on DND until you leave your current locationi or until the end of an event on your calendar. But Apple is taking things a step further - you can now create an Animoji of yourself, kind of like Snapchat's Bitmoji.
