Dallas Officer Who Fatally Shot Black Man In His Apartment Arrested

The officer's name is Amber Guyger.

A jail employee said Guyger was released on bond.

Jean was once asked to lead a college chapel service with an hymn that was unfamiliar to him, Harding University President Bruce McLarty recalled in a statement Friday.

"A female Dallas police officer returned to what she believed to be her apartment after her shift ended - she was still in uniform when she encountered Mr. Jean inside the apartment", Dallas Police Chief Ulysha Renee Hall said Thursday. "That includes holding Amber Guyger accountable for her crimes as well as ID'ing all responsible for enabling this incident". She has been charged with manslaughter. They didn't provide details.

The family of 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean had demanded that the officer be taken into custody. "This family is upset", Merritt said, standing beside Allison Jean as they faced a half-dozen television cameras at the back of the church auditorium. Guyger, a almost five-year veteran of the Police Department, had recently moved into the complex. The apartment complex is just a few blocks from Dallas' police headquarters.

Hall added that a drug/alcohol blood test was conducted on the officer, that a manslaughter warrant was being sought, and that the Dallas Police Department has "invited the Texas Rangers to conduct an independent investigation".

The Department of Public Safety, which oversees the Texas Rangers, didn't immediately reply to a Saturday phone message seeking comment about the investigation. "Botham Jean was a member of the PwC family in our Dallas office and we are simply heartbroken to hear of his death". She knew him well.

Crump has also represented the families of Stephon Clark and Terence Crutcher, both also black and unarmed. He was shot by a Dallas police officer in his apartment on Thursday night.

Jon Kyl appointed to take John McCain's Senate seat
Jeff Flake, the other senator from Arizona , offered Kyl his blessing shortly after the news of his appointment made public. However, he had said anyone who lobbied for the appointment before the senator's death would be disqualified.

The mother of a black Caribbean man who was fatally shot by a white Dallas police officer who said she mistook his apartment for her own wonders whether her son's race was a factor in his killing.

According to a police officer via Dallas News Guyger is "devastated" and "she is so, so sorry for this family". Guyger called 911. But Jean, who worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dallas, died at a hospital. "Right now, there are more questions than we have answers".

After Jean graduated in 2016, he remained in the USA with an internship at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Dallas, his mother said. They took several mission groups, which Botham Jean helped organize, to work in St. Lucia. "Would she have reacted differently?"

"I need to look into her eyes and ask her why did she do that to my son", Allison Jean told NBC News.

She said she met Jean when she first moved into the South Side Flats in April. She shot another man, Uvaldo Perez, on May 12, 2017, while she was on duty. Guyger was trying to assist, when a struggle began with Perez. Perez got out of a vehicle and became combative with Ms Guyger and another officer. "Then at some point, she fired her weapon striking the victim", Hall said. Guyger then shot Perez.

"It was, like, police talk: 'Open up!"

In 2016, Jean graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, where he majored in accounting and management information systems, according to a statement from the school.
