Serena Williams uses net game to cruise into ninth US Open final

Williams walked off Arthur Ashe Stadium court with a wave and twirl to await the victor of the other semi-final between Japan's Naomi Osaka and American Madison Keys, who lost last year's final to Sloane Stephens.

"To break in both sets, having solid games there, was really important tonight", Keys said in her on-court post-match interview.

Osaka wasn't born when compatriot Kimiko Date made the Wimbledon semifinals in 1996, but now the 20-year-old has the opportunity to go one better by reaching a maiden Grand Slam final. She lost to Sloane Stephens in the semis of the French Open back in June.

When her confidence is fully restored - and that could happen in the final of the US Open on Saturday after her near faultless 6-3, 6-0 win over the unorthodox Latvian Anastasija Sevastova on Thursday night - two years of uncertainty in the women's game will be over. She then flew to Miami, where she promptly dismissed her idol, Serena Williams, in a dominant first-round win.

Last two men's quarter-finals matches will be played on Wednesday at the US Open. She recovered to win in three sets, with her opponent accusing her after the match of acting.

She won 59 points to just 28 for the unseeded Ukrainian, who knocked off No. 2 seed Caroline Wozniacki in the second round.

Williams raced to a 6-4 6-0 victory over Magda Linette before crushing Germany's Carina Witthoeft 6-2 6-2 in the second round.

Tsurenko didn't appear bothered by the conditions, but whether it was her health or just first-time jitters, she was off from the minute she stepped onto Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Malaysian women caned for attemping to have lesbian sex
The Malaysian Bar said the country should not tolerate caning in any form and should repeal all forms of corporal punishment. Lawyers and activists say more than 100 people witnessed the caning in a Sharia court in north-east Terengganu state.

It was another hot afternoon Wednesday, with temperatures in the high-80s (30s Celsius) but feeling some 10 degrees hotter with the humidity.

I hope I will enjoy it, playing semi-finals.

Osaka celebrated her win calmly and coolly unlike the floods of tears which greeted her last-16 victory over Aryna Sabalenka. "I wasn't nervous before the match, but as soon as I got into the court, it was different".

Djokovic moved a step closer to a third championship at Flushing Meadows and 14th Grand Slam title overall by eliminating Millman 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.

In New York, members of the Japanese media fill her news conferences after every match.

Nishikori next faces Novak Djokovic, while Osaka will play Madison Keys from the US. 'They wanted to see me play and I wanted to give them the best that I can.

Osaka broke in the second and sixth games of the opening set which was wrapped up in just 24 minutes.
