New book by Woodward says Trump wanted Syrian leader killed

The White House also issued a statement from the chief of staff, John Kelly, a source quoted in the book, denying one of its claims.

"The contemptuous words about the President attributed to me in Woodward's book were never uttered by me or in my presence". Likewise other stories and quotes.

Woodward reportedly said Mattis was "particularly exasperated and alarmed" after the meeting, "telling close associates that the president acted like - and had the understanding of - 'a fifth- or sixth-grader'". He said, "The idea I ever called the President an idiot is not true".

She claimed in a statement: "While it is not always pretty, and rare that the press actually covers it, president Trump has broken through the bureaucratic process to deliver unprecedented successes for the American people".

Sarah Sanders, the White House press secretary, said: "This book is nothing more than fabricated stories, many by former disgruntled employees, told to make the president look bad". "He's had a lot of credibility problems", President Donald Trump told the Daily Caller during a Tuesday Oval Office interview.

What are the allegations in the book?

Not only that but it seems like they are so frustrated with him that they're calling Trump names!

This amounts to an "administrative coup d'état", Woodward says.

According to another anecdote from Woodward's book, in April 2017, Trump told Mattis that he should start making plans to assassinate Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.

"I never got a call". What he precisely said, in diplomatic lingo of course, was, "Let's f-king kill him!"

Trump on Tuesday also lamented the fact that he did not sit for an interview with Woodward before publication.

Josh Donaldson's 5 greatest moments with the Toronto Blue Jays
That home run was Donaldson's 41st of the season and his league-leading 123rd RBI, helping him secure the AL MVP that year. This was the Blue Jays last opportunity to get something - however minute that was - in exchange for Donaldson.

A number of other officials from the president's staff - including Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and White House Chief of Staff John Kelly, both of whom were specifically referenced in the book - have come out against it.

Another allegation made in the book is that former top economic adviser to Trump Gary Cohn stole a letter off Trump's desk to prevent the USA from withdrawing from a trade agreement with South Korea.

"It felt like we were walking along the edge of the cliff perpetually", Mr Porter is quoted as saying. If we'd had Bob Woodward hanging out with Franklin Delano Roosevelt, the stories we would've gotten of dysfunction, of confusion, or manipulation. The national security team developed options for the more conventional airstrike that Trump ultimately ordered.

It would be hard to find a journalist with greater credentials.

White House chief of staff John Kelly also rejected Woodward's reporting that he called Trump an "idiot", even though multiple outlets have also reported that Kelly has privately disparaged the President.

He is certainly one of the most respected and well-informed political analysts.

Watergate reporter Carl Bernstein stresses the need for the Republican Party to protect Robert Mueller's investigation and identify Trump's presidency as a "national emergency".

Did the president speak to Woodward?

In this reported conversation between Trump's former lawyer John Dowd and Robert Mueller, the man leading the investigation into the alleged collusion between Trump and Russian Federation in the 2016 election, the former says he is not going to sit by and let Mueller interview Trump for his investigation.

"When I have attributed exact quotations, thoughts or conclusions to the participants, that information comes from the person, a colleague with direct knowledge, or from meeting notes, personal diaries, files and government or personal documents", Woodward wrote in a note to readers included in the book. "So I have another bad book coming out".
