New Trump attack against Attorney General Jeff Sessions

New Trump attack against Attorney General Jeff Sessions

President Trump continued his attacks on Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Labor Day, accusing him of endangering the party's hopes in the November elections.

A decision by the Justice Department to hold off on prosecuting two Republican congressmen up for re-election in order to help them win would have been highly unethical and a blatantly politically motivated violation of the department's nonpartisan mission.

An incensed Jeffrey Toobin bluntly called out Donald Trump on Tuesday morning over a presidential tweet attacking Attorney General Jeff Sessions for allowing an investigation into corruption by two GOP lawmakers. "Two easy wins now in doubt", Trump tweeted.

Rep. Duncan Hunter of California was indicted and accused of fraud and stealing campaign funds for personal use, and Rep. Chris Collins of NY was indicted and accused of insider trading.

Trump, who did not address the specifics of the charges, did not name the Republicans.

AshLee Strong, a spokesperson for House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, responded to Trump's tweet by saying the Justice Department "should always remain apolitical, and the speaker has demonstrated he takes these charges seriously".

Trump says he thinks United States is doing well with North Korea
North Korea has long described the exercises as "provocative", claiming they were yearly rehearsals to invade the North. Seoul and Pyongyang have discussed trans-Korean rail networks since the first inter-Korean summit in 2000.

The Republican president verbally spat on his attorney general in tweets that dripped with disdain. Both are creating problems for the GOP, given how hard it would be to replace the already-renominated incumbents on the ballots, and in Trump's estimation, Sessions should have prevented that.

Trump stayed at the White House on Monday, watching television.

A few minutes after the tweet on Sessions, Trump added a second tweet attacking former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James B. Comey, asserting that Democrats did not like Comey until Trump fired him in 2017. The Hunter investigation began under Obama. "Instead of commenting on ongoing investigations and prosecutions, the job of the President of the United States is to defend the Constitution and protect the impartial administration of justice".

"The Democrats, none of whom voted for Jeff Sessions, must love him now". Trump has also repeatedly complained publicly and privately over Sessions' decision to recuse himself from the federal investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation because he'd worked on Trump's campaign.

The comments prompted a pointed response from Sessions, who said in a statement that "While I am Attorney General, the actions of the Department of Justice will not be improperly influenced by political considerations". But some have indicated that Trump may make a change after the elections. Still, Sessions has made clear to associates that he has no intention of leaving his job voluntarily despite Trump's constant criticism.
