U.S. News & World Report has released its 29th annual ranking of the nation's top hospitals, and the D.C. -area is not on it.

Along with its national rankings, U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals published state and metropolitan hospital rankings.

The University of Chicago Medical Center and Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn both tied for fourth-place among top IL hospitals.

U.S. News compared more 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions. In addition, the Concord medical center was rated as high performing in all nine adult procedures and conditions, including Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Aortic Valve Surgery, COPD, Colon Cancer Surgery, Heart Bypass Surgery, Heart Failure, Hip Replacement, Knee Replacement and Lung Cancer Surgery. It also received a children's specialty ranking for its pediatric cardiology & heart surgery practice.

Aurora Medical Center Grafton ranked No. 3 in Southeastern Wisconsin. "Thank you to all our colleagues for the work they do every day on behalf of our patients, and for continually seeking new and innovative ways to deliver the best possible care close to home".

Aretha Franklin brings us all together
Aretha Franklin is now said to be "alert and laughing" at home as she continues to battle her illness. "Family is there with her". Franklin, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2010, last performed in November 2017 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in NY .

"I'm incredibly proud that our compassionate community care continues to be reflected in U.S. News and World Report rankings as one of the top hospitals in Los Angeles and California", Dr. Lori J. Morgan, Huntington Hospital's President and CEO, said. The 29th annual rankings are created to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care.

Four California hospitals again made it onto U.S. News' honor roll of the top 20 hospitals in the nation.

U-M's medical facility opened in 1869 and was the country's first university-owned hospital. "These rankings also speak to nationally-renowned experts at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus who provide excellent patient care and research, helping transform the future of medicine". To provide the most accurate results, U.S. News combed through data for almost 5,000 hospitals.

Other local hospitals that ranked on the state list are Sutter Medical Center, 16; Mercy San Juan Medical Center, 34; Mercy General Hospital, tied at 34; and Sutter Roseville, 43.

U.S. News focuses on hospitals that provide a full range of services rather than specialty hospitals when ranking regionally. In 12 of the 16 specialties, ranking is determined by an extensive data-driven analysis that combines measures of performance in three primary dimensions of healthcare: structure, process and outcomes.
