President Donald Trump signed into law a military funding bill that is named after Sen.

Standing in front of soldiers and senior military leaders at Fort Drum in NY, U.S. President Donald Trump made no mention of Senator John McCain who has been one of the president's fiercest critics.

The White House has officially banned the government use of hardware made by Chinese companies ZTE and Huawei, including smartphones, routers, and similar devices. It provides $717 billion for military funding, which Trump described as historic. More than $11 billion is allocated for military construction, including family housing.

Trump also touted the addition of thousands of new recruits to active duty, and reserve and National Guard units as well as new tanks, planes and ships "with the most advanced and lethal technology ever developed".

WASHINGTON-If U.S. President Donald Trump had wanted to make a gracious mention of John McCain, the ailing Republican senator from Arizona, he could have done it Monday, when the president signed the $716 billion (U.S.) military spending bill named in McCain's honour.

"Serving as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and working on behalf of America's courageous service members has been one of the greatest honors of my life".

The president deemed the annual military spending bill the "most significant investment in our military".

In his words, Turkey is once again facing "political and bad game". "With God's permission we will overcome this", he added. The U.S. media said the decision was related to the current state of Turkish-American relations and the Brunson case.

"After years of devastating cuts, we're now rebuilding our military like never before", Mr. Trump said.

"The veterans' unemployment rate recently reached its lowest level in almost 20 years", he said.

Thus, the bill doesn't ban all ZTE and Huawei gear, just components that can be used to view or route data.

The compromise bill removes a provision reinstating penalties against ZTE and restricting the company's ability to buy USA component parts.

Huawei and ZTE have been the center of government attention for a while now.

The measure also addresses child-on-child sexual assault at USA military bases worldwide. An AP investigation documented broad failures of justice when military kids report incidents. John McCain, but Trump did not mention the senator's name during his speech.

"I'm humbled that my colleagues in Congress chose to designate this bill in my name". But Mr. Trump struck a deal to lift the sanctions at the personal request of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who has been helping Mr. Trump in his efforts to negotiate with North Korea on denuclearization.
