Trump tackles Russian lawyer claims head on

Trump's latest assertion on Twitter that the goal of the meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and Natalia Vasalnitskaya was to "get information on an opponent" but that it was "totally legal" and "done all the time" has provoked forceful condemnations, including from Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL), who appeared on CNN's OutFront with Erin Burnett to discuss the matter.

That's essentially what happened when news of a 2016 Trump Tower meeting came out, when then-candidate Trump's son met with Russian nationals.

"The Fake News hates me saying that they are the Enemy of the People only because they know it's TRUE", Trump tweeted from his Bedminster golf resort in New Jersey.

President Donald Trump has for the first time acknowledged that a June 9, 2016 meeting at Trump Tower was the latter. As more details emerged, Trump Jr. released a new statement acknowledging there was an offer of potentially damaging information on Clinton and the Democratic Party, and he eventually published emails about the meeting.

Trump Jr.is a subject in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia's investigation for his role in a meeting at Trump Tower with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya.

The Trump camp maintains that it doesn't matter anyway, because information on Clinton was never delivered by the Russians, or received by the campaign, in the meeting.

However, he subsequently admitted he had agreed to the meeting after being told he would be offered information that would prove detrimental to Mrs Clinton.

Sekulow, repeating the recent mantra of Trump's legal team and of the president himself, said there "has been no evidence at this point of any type of collusion by the president".

The president also referred to the reports that he is concerned about the potential legal problems his son might face as "fake news" and a "complete fabrication".

China to hit back at USA with 60 billion dollars tariffs
Meanwhile, Chinese state TV said: "The White House's extreme pressure and blackmail are already clear to the worldwide community". The ministry said timing of the implementation of the new tariffs on United States goods would depend on the actions of the US.

"It's illegal to ask for a contribution from a foreign government or a foreign entity or a foreign person, whether they're donating dollars to the campaign or donating something of value, which could include opposition research". CNN reported last month that Michael Cohen, the president's longtime personal lawyer and self-described "fixer" was willing to tell Mueller that Trump did know about the meeting in advance.

At that time, Russian officials were under United States sanctions.

The president claimed it did not last long and "nothing came of the meeting".

"We have to make a decision based on the law and what's best for our client", said Sekulow, adding that it will take time to make that determination.

"Citing multiple sources, the Times reports that Trump Jr". Mueller is investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and possible coordination with Trump campaign aides.

On Monday, ABC News chief legal analyst Dan Abrams warned that Trump's tweet could preview legal trouble for Junior.

In another, he expressed frustration with both the media and Mueller's probe. They purposely cause great division & distrust. Her unannounced presence raised some eyebrows as Hicks has been interviewed by Mueller and was part of the team of staffers that helped draft the original statement on the Trump Tower meeting.
