Alisson Becker given provisional squad number ahead of first Liverpool start

Liverpool's new goalkeeper Alisson Becker has already shown glimpses of why Jurgen Klopp went against his better judgement and paid £65m to bring him to Anfield.

Playing against Napoli will be a familiar experience for Alisson despite making the switch from AS Roma to Liverpool last month.

Belgian forward Dries Mertens has not yet returned to training after helping his national team clinch third place in the World Cup.

Alisson is set to make his Liverpool debut in a pre-season clash against Napoli on Saturday (kick-off 6pm). "We should not waste time", Klopp told Liverpool's website.

"I really hope that the people use that to come and we have a first really nice coming together and start a very important season for us, and create from the first day again a very special atmosphere".

"Each player in the world needs training and time to adapt to his teammates".

The German first threw the ball directly out to Karim Benzema for the game's opener, before fumbling Gareth Bale's shot from range to give Real their 3-1 lead.

With this in mind, Liverpool should consider a move for £48 million-rated Inter Milan winger ivan Perisic, who has been attracting interest from Manchester United, according to Sky Sports.

"It's good to have him here, he looks in good shape", Klopp said as Firmino joined training in France.

Liverpool's final pre-season friendly will also be against a Serie A side, Torino, on August 7.

And Alisson insists he will be 100 per cent ready by the time the Reds kick off their new campaign.

"For my club, I just want to take the next step now. What it means for the league we will see".

"I'm very happy to have them alongside me and to be a part of this project that Liverpool have and the great work they have been doing over recent years".
