Novak Djokovic edges ahead in Wimbledon clash with Rafael Nadal

Novak Djokovic edges ahead in Wimbledon clash with Rafael Nadal

After being kept waiting until past 8 start their semi-final, the duo ran out of time to finish it before the 11 p.m. curfew and will have to return on Saturday to complete the match with Djokovic leading by two sets to one.

Nicole Melichar and Kveta Peschke upset sixth seeds Gabriela Dabrowski and Yifan Xu 6-3 4-6 7-5 in two hours and 16 minutes to reacjh the women's doubles final.

But an athletic Djokovic had Nadal running around the court in the next game, bringing him forward to the net and lobbing the Spaniard before breaking back with a beautifully angled forehand.

The only silver lining for Anderson, if it can be called that, is that the length of his match had a knock-on effect on the Nadal-Djokovic semi-final. The record, funnily enough, was set by Isner.

The match could not end due to a quirk of Wimbledon and two of the other Grand Slams - the fifth set cannot end in a tiebreaker. Mathieu won 18-16 in the fifth set of a match that last five hours and 41 minutes. Both Isner and Anderson said they'd like to see that change. "I've hit a lot of left-handed balls throughout my life". I apologize if I'm not more excited right now.

The previous semifinal record at Wimbledon was a four-hour, 43-minute match between Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro.

"I feel like she's been playing really well, ".

After taking out Federer in spectacular fashion from two sets down in their quarter-final, Anderson is a win away from a potential repeat of his 2017 US Open decider against Nadal.

Wimbledon: Extraordinary Serena Williams into final
Serena Williams is playing some of her best tennis , and she'll go for her eighth Wimbledon title on Saturday. She has won 23 Grand Slam titles in singles in her career so far, but this one would be different.

Isner, who lost his second-round match in 2010 because he could barely move after beating Mahut, agreed. "I think he will expect that, as well". "I really feel for John", added Anderson, who has now made his second final at a Slam after finishing runner-up to Nadal at last year's US Open. They combined for 102 aces, 53 by Isner, 49 by Anderson.

Anderson's fifth set alone lasted almost 3 hours as his semifinal became a test of endurance more than skill.

That has sparked backlash among the tennis community, especially considering the All England Club insists the men's final would not move from 2pm local time - even for the football World Cup final.

Numerous best points came in the tiebreaker, including a 23-shot rally that Nadal finished off with a forehand half-volley drop shot to set up his first set point.

At 24-24 in the fifth set Kevin Anderson slipped on the baseline and dropped his racket.

Anderson had a strong chance to secure the third set and potentially keep the match from going the distance - as Anderson's round of 16 and quarterfinal bouts did.

Back and fully healthy, Djokovic and Nadal should give us a match to see. The U.S. Open does use a tiebreaker after 6-6.

Then, 122 minutes into the fifth set, the crowd went wild as a tired-looking Isner faced two more break points, only to save them with back-to-back aces as dark rain clouds gathered over Centre Court. Anderson broke Isner's serve for the first time in 110 service games at Wimbledon earlier in the set.
