US President Donald Trump arrives in United Kingdom for four-day visit

Donald Trump, 72, is about to visit the United Kingdom for the first time since being elected president in November 2016, and the British people aren't prepared to give him a warm welcome. Both of those accords were the result of years of painstaking diplomacy by European leaders - and Trump unilaterally trashed them.

Mr Trump said he had told Ms May how to do a Brexit deal, but the Prime Minister did not heed his advice.

It is not simply the protesters, who are expected to dog Trump throughout his visit, including his weekend in Scotland, but his fraught relationship with political leaders accustomed to harmonious exchanges with USA leaders, a tradition of unity that goes back at least to the vital World War II partnership of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill.

In sharp contrast to the president sharp words, Trump's first event in England was an oasis of warm greetings at an evening reception at Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Winston Churchill, the larger-than-life British leader cited by the president as a model of leadership.

Mr. Trump has been a keen supporter of Brexit and on Thursday he appeared to echo those concerns. Trump said Khan has "done a very bad job on terrorism" as he allowed too many immigrants into the city - despite the fact that the Mayor doesn't control migration.

"Boris Johnson's a friend of mine, he's been very nice to me, very supportive and maybe I'll speak to him when I get over there". She said they will discuss security and defense, an aspect of the relationship that is causing anxiety for some British politicians.

"If they do a deal like that, we would be dealing with the European Union instead of dealing with the United Kingdom, so it will probably kill the deal", Trump told the Sun, referring to May's Brexit proposals.

A day before the USA president was due to have bilateral talks with Theresa May, Trump used an interview with the Rupert Murdoch-owned Sun to endorse her principal Tory rival just days after he resigned from the cabinet in protest at her Brexit policy.

"I think that's why Brexit happened", he said, noting that Britain was "a pretty hot spot right now with a lot of resignations". "I'm not sure that's what they voted for", Trump said on Thursday.

A number of protests have been planned for the president's stay in the country, with the largest march due to be held in London on Friday.

Ian Blackford, the Scottish National Party's leader in the Westminster parliament, said he regretted that May's government would roll out the red carpet for Trump.

However, despite the welcome from May, many Britons remain deeply opposed to Trump's visit.

Later, Trump will go to Windsor Castle for tea with 92-year-old Queen Elizabeth.

Trump added that May's "soft" blueprint for the U.K.'s future dealings with the European Union would probably "kill" any future trade deals with the United States. Protesters also have plans to follow Trump to Scotland where they plan to fly the blimp near Turnberry while Trump is in town.

Leo Murray, an environmental campaigner, leading the protest, told the Guardian, "People in Scotland are past masters when it comes to protesting against Trump". Organizers have been given permission to float a giant balloon depicting Mr. Trump as a baby and they've already declared victory by noting that the President is largely avoiding London during his visit. When he leaves Britain on Sunday, after a trip to Scotland where he owns two golf courses, he heads to Helsinki for a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
