George Clooney involved in Italian scooter crash and briefly hospitalized

Hollywood star George Clooney was taken to the hospital in Sardinia and released after being involved in an accident while riding his motorcycle, hospital officials said. It shows a blue Mercedes veering into oncoming traffic apparently to turn into a residential compound near Olbia.

"He is recovering at his home and will be fine", a representative for Clooney previously told HuffPost.

Clooney was riding the scooter near Olbia when a auto cut across the actor's path at an intersection, resulting in a collision, Lt. Alberto Cicognani of the Carabinieri Italian military force said to NBC News.

"The vehicle driver called the 112, the emergency number of Carabinieri, and they sent the Municipal Police, an ambulance and the Fire Dept". Local media that had gathered at the hospital said Clooney is believed to have left through a side exit.

Monsoon flooding cut off their escape route and prevented rescuers from finding them for nearly 10 days. Mongkhol Boonpiam's mother said last night she learned her son may have been rescued from social media.

A picture from the scene of the crash shows slight damage to the actor's bike, the car's windscreen smashed, and a fire extinguisher in the road.

Clooney reportedly was in Sardinia filming a television miniseries adapted from Joseph Heller's World War II novel "Catch-22". Staff at the home declined to comment.

Sardinia, a large Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea, is over 500 miles from Clooney's villa in Lake Como.
