New Orleans family honors loved one with unusual funeral

Since Matthews was a fan of video games and the Boston Celtics, his family used Sunday's wake as an opportunity to feature him doing what he loved. In a certainly unique but loving way, Matthews' family had his body prepared not in an open casket, but on a swivel chair, posed as if he were playing a video game. He also donned socks brandishing the likeness of Kyrie Irving, the Celtics player that wears the number 11 shirt, the same that Matthews wore.

The New Orleans native's life was tragically cut short in a shooting on June 26.

For Renard's funeral ceremony, the family opted to stage his body as if he were playing his favourite game - NBA2K - while wearing a Boston Celtics shirt and eating Doritos crisps.

The tragic youngster had been out walking his dog when he was shot and robbed of his cellphone.

Police didn't reveal any suspects or motive at the time. We get used to seeing each other occupy certain spaces so I think there's something strangely handsome about wanting to see Renard Matthews in that chair, controller in hand, one last time.
