Cuomo demands Senate reconvene to vote on abortion rights measure

If the U.S. Supreme Court overturns the 45-year-old Roe v. Wade decision, Arizona could be one of the first states in the nation to ban abortion.

Dawn Laguens, the Executive Vice President of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said at a press conference in D.C. Thursday that any Supreme Court nominee must be held to the "higher standard" of agreeing that women have a right to abortion and contraception as well as affirming LGBT rights. And about 49 percent said it was very important to get a justice who agreed with them on police powers.

The landmark case Roe v. Wade decriminalized abortion and protects a woman's right to choose.

President Donald Trump has said he will announce his nominee to replace retiring Justice Anthony M. Kennedy on Monday.

That law was struck down by the Supreme Court, as she pointed out, by the vote of five justices in 2016 in the case of Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt.

Kennedy, by contrast, was a swing vote on abortion issues.

Shopper Alert: Amazon's Prime Day Deals Are Already Dropping
July 16, there will be a plethora of deals, ranging from discounts on Amazon products such as the Echo to deals on sporting goods. Amazon has been building out its own brands in recent years, and is using Prime Day to highlight those collections.

According to the survey, 56 percent of independents in Texas oppose President Trump nominating someone to the Supreme Court who would vote to overturn the ruling and open the door for states to criminalize abortion.

The poll surveyed 1,500 US adults from July 1-3 through web-based interviews and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. "Roe v. Wade is the untold story of how people lied, how the media lied, and how the courts were manipulated to pass a law that has since killed over 60 Million Americans", reads a funding appeal for the movie. "I'm not going to comment on those particular cases right now".

Blumenthal also said on "This Week" that he believes Democrats could block the appointment of a new Supreme Court justice before the November midterm elections.

An actor best known for his role in Den of Thieves is filming a pro-life movie about the controversial Roe v. Wade decision, but he's not getting a ton of help from his Hollywood friends.

I think abortion opponents will have that trust vindicated; I think a Roberts-Kavanaugh court, however restrained in other ways, will overrule Casey and allow the states to legislate freely on abortion once again. Because Roe had not been decided by a close vote (the vote was actually 7-2), and because it had bipartisan support, with both liberal and conservative justices on the Court voting with the majority and with key leaders in both political parties endorsing the decision, no one at the time, whether inside or outside of the pro-life movement, thought an imminent reversal of the decision was likely.

Sen. Harriette Chandler, president of the Massachusetts Senate. Democrats need to maintain their votes, plus one Republican to vote against the nominee to halt confirmation. Republican state lawmakers across the country have been attacking Roe around the edges for years with increasingly restrictive rules, from gestational limits to tougher licensing for clinics.
