'Ant-Man and the Wasp' Buzzes to No. 1

'Ant-Man and the Wasp' Buzzes to No. 1

It's the first animated film to ever surpass $500 million at the North American box office, and the 12th film ever to do so.

Praise seems to be strong for "Ant-Man and the Wasp", which holds a promising 86 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

That was enough to give it the top spot at the United States box office, and make it the studio's 20th straight number one opening.

And if you are among those who saw Ant-Man And The Wasp this weekend and loved it, we have a recommendation for you.

Ant-Man and the Wasp raked in $76 million at the domestic box office, coming in under the projections that had it making more than Doctor Strange's opening weekend of $85 million. Still, Ant-Man and the Wasp looks to be off to a good start as the film is pacing 45 percent ahead of its predecessor intentionally, taking in $85 million overseas, with a fair amount of worldwide markets yet to open.

The only downside with Ant-Man and the Wasp right now is Forbes pointing out that the opening weekend is rather front-loaded. The latest MCU production also continued the trend in topping the box office during its opening weekend, a feat that every movie in the MCU has accomplished.

"Ant-Man and the Wasp", which opened on July 6, is the 20th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that kicked off with the 2008 release "Iron Man".

Be that as it may, it makes Ant-Man and the Wasp's slightly disappointing opening... well, disappointing.

Universal and Amblin Entertainment's Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom recently charged past US$1 billion at the worldwide box office.

As for The First Purge, which is the fourth outing in the franchise, the film took in $17.2 million over the weekend, bringing its five day total - as the film opened on July 4th - to $31.1 million. Solo made just under $1 million domestically, bringing its domestic box office total to $211 million.

Also opening in limited release was Annapurna's "Sorry to Bother You", which landed the best per screen average of the weekend with $44,881.

Finishing in second is Disney and Pixar's Incredibles 2 delivering an estimated $29 million for a domestic cume that now stands at $504.3 million.

Another documentary, Neon's "Three Identical Strangers" earned $717,008 million from 5 locations, bringing its domestic tally past $1 million.
