Trump Defends Jim Jordan Over Ohio State Abuse Allegations

Lawyers in the investigation had previously tried to schedule an interview with Jordan, Porter Wright partner Kathleen Trafford said Tuesday.

Jordan has denied that he knew about allegations of abuse by Strauss, who joined Ohio State's clinical faculty in 1978 and served as a team physician in the athletics department from 1981 to 1995 before retiring in 1998.

Guest host Leland Vittert, filling in for America's Newsroom anchor Bill Hemmer, was speaking with a panel of media guests during a segment of the show's second hour about recent allegations against Jordan by former Ohio State wrestlers who claim he was dismissive of sex abuse claims involving former team doctor Richard Strauss in the 1990s.

Jordan has denied the allegations and said if he knew about abuse, he would have reported it.

"I participated with Jimmy and the other wrestlers in locker-room talk about Strauss", Dailey said.

Two former wrestlers at Ohio State University say a congressman isn't being truthful when he says he wasn't aware of allegations that a team doctor was abusing athletes. The source added that the messages were vaguely threatening in nature in part because of the amount of emails sent, and that Jordan did not respond to the emails because he felt the man was "bullying him"'.

Three wrestlers came forward two days ago, telling NBC News that they were coached by Jordan and that they either told him or that he knew of it.

Jordan was an assistant coach on the team from 1986 to 1994.

DiSabato says it was a running joke that no matter what ailment a person asked Strauss to look at, the doctor would always examine his genitals. "But nothing -I mean, things they said about me were just flat-out not true". I believe Jim Jordan 100 percent.

A spokesman for Mr. Jordan, a founder of the hard-line House Freedom Caucus who represents a solidly Republican district in OH, said the congressman was unaware of any abuse.

"We all did", Dailey, 43, told NBC News, referring to Jordan.

Rep Jordan's spokesman said Thursday the Republican is working with investigators to set up a meeting.

The video was produced in June by former OSU wrester Mike DiSabato's company Combat Athlete Coalition, he told CNN.

DiSabato subsequently told CNN it was "laughable" that Jordan would feel threatened by his emails, describing Jordan as a "world caliber athlete, who is very aggressive in his actions" and a "bulldog". "We all did", Dailey told NBC News. "It was very common knowledge in the locker room that if you went to Dr. Strauss for anything, you would have to pull your trousers down".

"I don't believe [the accusers] at all", President Trump said, speaking with reporters aboard Air Force One, on his way to a rally in Montana Thursday night.
