But he's released from house arrest at the end of the movie and free to participate in experiments with his girlfriend Hope (Evangeline Lilly as The Wasp), her father Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and her mother Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), recently saved from the Quantum Realm. One year before movie-goers saw the tragic ending in Avengers: Infinity War, Spider-Man: Homecoming producer, Amy Pascal, might have ruined Avengers 4.

The mid-credits scene is the one that has the most significance to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, because it shows Scott Lang fiddling about inside the Quantum Realm, which the film tells us is a very unsafe place.

The following article contains spoilers for Marvel's Ant-Man and The Wasp, in theaters now. The Pyms sent Scott Lang back into the Quantum Realm on a mission of mercy, but while he was gone, the Snap occurred and wiped out the Pym family. Unsurprisingly, we learn that all three of them were dissolved into dust care of Thanos's Infinity War finger snap, right at the most inopportune time, leaving Scott presumably stranded in the Quantum Realm with no way to get out, no way to communicate with the outside world, and no one alive with the knowledge that he's even there at all.

The fact that the MCU is left on ambiguous footing at the end of "Avengers: Infinity War" also opens up a lot of potential in the Quantum Realm. Now we know why. He's ready to come back up, and starts the countdown. only Janet, Hank, and Hope aren't receiving his messages. This is probably significant for Avengers 4. The ant who'd subbed in for Scott's daily routine is not only home, he's having the time of his life banging on Scott's electric drum kit.

Of course, there's also a fail-safe in the form of a character we meet in the movie, Bill Foster (Laurence Fishburne), so Scott might just get yanked out and run off to beat up Thanos on his farm.

There's basically an endless list of possibilities revolving around the Quantum Realm.

So big the end credits even state: "Ant-Man and the Wasp will return?"

According to leaked set photos from Avengers 4 and popular theories, it's possible that there will be some time-trickery going on in the highly anticipated sequel.
