Austrian Grand Prix 2018 race results: Full classification - Verstappen wins, Hamilton out

"I think that obviously Mercedes has got so used to being at the front, qualifying on the front row first and second and any race that they are not on the podium is disastrous".

But while Red Bull and Ferrari quickly brought in both drivers for fresh tyres, the Mercedes garage did not make the same call for Hamilton.

Ricciardo's teammate Verstappen, who started fourth, held off a late charge from Kimi Raikkonen in the other Ferrari to celebrate his fourth career victory and first of the season.

Ricciardo says the Austrian grand prix, Red Bull's home race, was the scene of promising talks, especially as the energy drink company's magnate Dietrich Mateschitz was trackside for a rare visit.

Mercedes had dominated the 4.318km Red Bull Ring in Spielberg since the Austrian race returned to the calender in 2014 and that looked set to continue until an inexplicable error.

It was clear running for Mr. Hamilton, as he took Top Spot from Verstappen early in the session and never gave it up. "I'm not that happy at all", he said after qualifying seventh while Verstappen managed P4.

Thai boys soccer team may have to dive to escape cave, floods
Doctors say the boys could survive for days without food, but much would depend on whether they found water clean enough to drink. The system of passageway of the cave to the team is complicated and hard for divers to navigate, making extraction challenging .

Verstappen asked "what is going on?" and when advised by the team to "just overtake him" replied: "No". But no. Much of what we thought turned out not to be true.

"Strategy is one of those really odd things where it is incredibly obvious in hindsight what you should have done; even my mum could have made the right decision with the benefit of all the hindsight after the decision is taken". He's always asking for information, managing those tyres, and that's why they didn't blister up.

Red Bull's Max Verstappen won in Austria, which Horner believed proved they were still outsiders with a shot at a title, but it was Hamilton's team that attracted scrutiny. "A very, very mature drive for him". Red Bull is third in the constructors' championship, 58 points adrift of Ferrari.

This took place during the virtual safety auto period when Valtteri Bottas retired. "I think after Silverstone then we can start to go to a few tracks, I think especially Hungary, that's a track where we should aim for". Of course nothing in Formula 1 stands still.

Christian Horner believes Red Bull would now be leading the Formula One world championship if it hadn't dropped so many points in the opening nine races of 2018.

"I think the fact that we aren't a competitor to Renault or their own team, it actually helps their goal by having an engine winning races".
