Suarez Says Rivalry With Ronaldo Different When Playing for Uruguay, Barcelona

This is the third time that this record has changed hands in Russian Federation, with Ronaldo and Ricardo Quaresma having both broken it during the group stage.

On the same day Lionel Messi was sent home in Argentina's loss, the other "GOAT" at this tournament was also eliminated.

Portugal are out of the World Cup following their match against Uruguay.

All eyes were on Ronaldo and Sochi after Messi and Argentina had crashed out of the tournament in Kazan earlier on Saturday.

The Real Madrid striker will be 37 when the next World Cup arrives, in Qatar in 2022, but refused to consider his future as he left the Fisht Stadium. There has been speculation that both he and Messi will retire from global football following the action in Russian Federation.

Portugal have not lost a competitive match with Ronaldo in the side since the 2014 World Cup, although they were beaten on penalties by Chile at last year's Confederations Cup.

There were two key hurdles, though.

63 - First substitution of the match is for Uruguay and it's Cristian Rodríguez for Rodrigo Bentancur.

Match Preview: It will be a fascinating battle with Ronaldo, at 33, enjoying his best World Cup but Uruguay the only side to come through the group stage in Russian Federation without conceding a goal.

Edinson Cavani, who failed to finish the match after suffering a late injury, scored a superb goal in each half, and although Pepe scored in between, it was not enough to halt the Uruguayans, who have won all four of their matches so far in Russian Federation.

Uruguay fared better in Group A, notching three wins without conceding a goal to cruise to the top slot in the group.

INJURY CONCERN While Uruguay is advancing, it now must be concerned with the status of Cavani after he limped off the field and immediately called for a substitute.

16 minute: Portugal's Goncalo Guedes attempts a shot from distance but his shot gets blocked by Uruguay defenders.

Cavani was replaced by Cristhian Stuani for the remainder of the game as Uruguay held on to their 2-1 lead and secured a quarter-final fixture with France. A half-time pep talk and constant reinforcement appeared to lift his team-mates, too.

Portugal defender Pepe made Uruguay pay for sitting back when he leapt unmarked to head in a cross from Raphael Guerreiro after a short corner to level the match at 1-1 in the 55th minute.

Quaresma bent a cross towards Ronaldo, but just over him, and Bernardo Silva's low ball in was cleared before Manuel Fernandes came on for Portugal in place of Joao Mario. Uruguay's deadly duo - Cavani and Suarez - combine to lethal effect!

But Uruguay were back in front seven minutes later when Rodrigo Betancur allowed Cavani to brilliantly curl home his 45th worldwide goal.

Ronaldo's head dropped. His frustration grew.
