Toys R Us closes final stores Friday

Toys "R" Us is unfortunately officially closed, but before he retires Geoffrey might have a chance to step into a WWE ring thanks to Triple H.

The most recent set of photos, posted on Thursday night, shows the empty store in the moments before employees locked the doors for the last time.

Will the Toys R Us name and mascot disappear forever?

Triple H got a big kick out of the images and took to social media to tease that maybe fans will see Geoffrey in an NXT ring someday.

"I think Geoffrey the Giraffe signifies fun and childhood memories", a zoo representative told CBS San Antonio affiliate KENS.

Another user, @carloslinera22, wrote: 'There are sad moments in life. but this, this broke me completely.

As a player myself, I know that if you go into a game and you don't really enjoy it then it is very hard to play well. We are at tournament and we have to try and compete.

In case you need reminding, here is Geoffrey in happier times.

However, on a more positive note, the 16-foot tall statue of Geoffrey that greeted visitors at Toys R Us headquarters in Wayne, New Jersey will continue to make children happy at a hospital in the state.

In 1965, Geoffrey the giraffe became the company's mascot, appearing in his first TV commercial in 1973.

But several of Toys "R" Us' old competitors are already eyeing to fill the void.

The chain slowly began to lose its footing as shoppers moved to Amazon and competitors such as Walmart. The company filed for Chapter 11 reorganization last fall and pledged to stay open, but had poor sales during the critical holiday season as customers and vendors shied away.

Only a few months later in March, the decision was made to liquidate.
