But before you start getting excited about jumping in the pool with your AirPods, that extra layer of durability is to fend off sweat and rain, according to people familiar with the changes Apple has planned, so you still won't be able to swim with them.

Biometric sensors could also arrive on future AirPods, but probably not in 2019. Apple could release its new over-the-ear headphones as early as late 2018 or by early 2019.

Apple released its famous wireless earbuds, called AirPods, in 2016.

The first product on the docket is the AirPods.

Since we can never hear enough about the next big thing Apple might have in store, here's something that could be music to your ears.

The earbuds will likely be a premium version that will cost more than the existing $159 pair.

Apple could refresh its entire line of audio-focused products as soon as next year.

The pricier model is expected to feature noise-cancelling technology, as well as water resistance.

Reports also claim that the previously rumored over-the-ear models of Apple headphones will be delayed due to the upcoming AirPods. Apple is also working on a wireless charging case that's compatible with the upcoming AirPower charger. The new headphones are expected to offer "studio-quality" sound and "Hey Siri" support.

As reported by Bloomberg, Apple will not only enhance the current AirPods later this year but may even introduce a "high-end" version, along with an "audiophile grade" over-ear headset.

The report from Sina doesn't mention when a cheaper HomePod would go on sale, but noted that Apple is discussing the plans with one of its suppliers, a Taiwanese chip manufacturer called MediaTek. They are meant to be higher end than Beats headphones and are meant to compete with the high-end models of headphones which ship from firms like Bose Corp and Sennheiser.

In addition, Apple will also be updating the HomePod sometime next year. An Apple spokeswoman declined to comment. We don't know much about these, but Bloomberg's sources say that they'll be Apple-branded.
