Possible Tornado Collapses Multiple Buildings, Overturns Cars in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania

Investigators in Bradford County in northeast Pennsylvania say that a tornado caused the damage in Franklin Township. Debris lay scattered in parking lots and on streets and sidewalks. "When that happened, I was like, 'I have to get closer to the inside of the store.' I turned to run, and that was when I saw the back wall was just gone".

Newswatch 16 got a tour inside Wilkes-Barre Township Commons, a shopping area that's been shredded by 130-mile hour winds.

In the morning light Thursday, the scene along Mundy Street resembled a war zone, with debris in the streets and store fronts showing collapsed roofs, broken windows and damaged signs.

There were only six minor injuries reported from the severe weather Wednesday.

The tornado in Wilkes-Barre Township was rated an EF-2 on the enhanced Fujita scale and had an estimated maximum wind speed of 130 miles per hour.

The National Weather Service was also assessing the scene Thursday in an effort to determine if a tornado did in fact touch down, as officials at the scene said they suspected.

"I've been with the National Weather Service for 27 years, mostly in NY and I've never seen damage like this", said Dave Nicosia, with the National Weather Service.

Antoine Griezmann Finally Makes Decision On His Future
Griezmann will now focus fully on France's World Cup Group C campaign which starts on Saturday against Australia. Others made jokes at the 27-year-old's expense: 'Glad Griezmann has sorted out his future.

An emergency alert and tornado warning from the weather service preceded the twister, but those caught in its path were nevertheless stunned by the devastation.

"The doors were busting open".

Red Cross spokesman Dave Skutnik said on Twitter that the injuries weren't serious, but called the damage in the Luzerne County township "horrific".

"It's a miracle", said Governor Tom Wolf.

"We're all working in this together, Luzerne County always stands together", said Pedri.

The mall and the businesses on Mundy Street between Highland Park Boulevard and Tambur Boulevard will remain closed Thursday, according to officials.
