Rafael Nadal weighs up options after French Open glory

Rafael Nadal weighs up options after French Open glory

The German beat Mikhail Youzhny 7-6 (7/5) 6-3 in Monday's first round on grass.

The 36-year-old has not played since losing to Thanasi Kokkinakis at the Miami Open, after choosing to skip the entire clay court season for a second consecutive year.

Taking on Nadal at the clay-court Grand Slam tournament is a whole other challenge.

Although Nadal subsequently received treatment on his forearm it seemingly had little adverse effect and, after a second break of serve, his 11th triumph was secured at the fifth time of asking when Thiem sent a return long.

According to Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), if Nadal wins the 2018 French Open, he will be the first ever player to win 11 titles in three different tournaments.

Thiem broke back immediately as he continued to go for his shots, and he saw off a break point to hold for 2-2.

At 2-1 in the fourth set, Nadal stopped serving during a game because he couldn't straighten his left middle finger. I was very scared but that's sport, it was very humid.

Thiem was considered the stiffest test for Nadal at the French Open, and understandably so.

Midway through the opening set, Nadal's aqua T-shirt was so soaked with sweat it stuck to him, so he changed into a fresh one at a changeover, drawing catcalls from spectators. "So, yeah, I just went straight to my chair because I went - I didn't know even what I did".

"Let me enjoy this title", Nadal said with a smile. Of course, I have ambition, I have passion for what I am doing, but I never have been insane about all this kind of stuff. The Austrian is one of only three players to down Nadal on clay at least three times - the world No. 8 was the last man to overcome Nadal on clay, last month in Madrid.

"I have never been insane about this kind of stuff, you can't always be frustrated if somebody has more money than you, a bigger house than you, if somebody has more Grand Slams than you, ' he said".

Nadal added Wimbledon crowns in 2008 and 2010, an Australian Open title in 2009 and completed the career Grand Slam in 2010 by defeating Djokovic in the US Open final, becoming the youngest in the Open era (since 1967) to complete the four-event career sweep. "It was just bad misses. We're talking, we will see what happens", Federer said ahead of his first match at this week's Stuttgart Cup.

Meanwhile, Fallout Shelter will have a release on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch - and its going to come out later today. Earlier at Microsoft's E3 conference, you'd be forgiven for thinking Fallout 76 was a brand-new Fallout game.
