Whittaker vs Romero, CM Punk vs Jackson and pre-lims

Robert Whittaker survived off a staggering blow in the fifth round to win a gruelling split decision in a rematch with Yoel Romero at UFC 225 on Saturday night. The former Olympic silver medalist missed weight by over two pounds earlier this year ahead of a planned encounter with Luke Rockhold for the interim belt.

It was a violent continuation of their 2017 clash that saw Whittaker come away as the UFC middleweight champion.

Bisping on Romero coming up 0.2 pounds short: "I'm not the first person to jump to Yoel Romero's defense, but I will say this: It's a tricky one". Tuivasa, age 25, has won all seven of his pro fights by knockout or TKO, but the 39-year-old Arlovski will be his toughest opponent yet. He finally connected with some of his patented power, knocking Whittaker to the canvas. But Whittaker managed to survive the storm both times and heard the scorecards being read in his favor. The two plucked away at one another until a stiff counter from Romero stunned Whittaker again right before the bell sounded.

He was rocked by Romero again with less than 30 seconds left in the penultimate frame.

Whittaker opened the fourth round with a pair of head kicks in an attempt to take advantage of Romero's impaired vision.

An anti-climactic match ended predictably, with a Sharapova backhand nestling in the net - her 27th unforced error. Ironically, perhaps, the only one missing is the Slam everyone expects her to someday win: Wimbledon.

Romero, 41, did his best to do just that. He couldn't stay out of range, however, as Romero attacked and dropped him with little more than three minutes remaining in the final round. Romero is calculating with his strikes, and when he lands one, it hurts.

Whittaker eventually regained his feet, but Romero kneed him in the face and bludgeoned him with punches, before dragging him back to the mat. Romero knocked out Rockhold in the second round.

Each man fired until the final horn, putting on a stunning display of perseverance and heart.

Instead, Whittaker has the win and the belt, though neither seemed a sure thing as the fight came to its conclusion.

"He hits like a truck", Whittaker said. Or they get super furious that I said that I can't watch but eight seconds of wrestling.
