Marcus Rashford Shines As England Cruise Past Costa Rica

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring with a stunning long-range strike past Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas, before Danny Welbeck's diving header secured victory for the hosts.

Rashford played in Dele Alli and his low cross found fellow substitute Welbeck at the far post.

Southgate was asked at the news conference whether he would have any hesitation in starting 19-year-old, uncapped Liverpool right-back Alexander-Arnold in the opening game against Tunisia and said he had faith in the youngster. Goals from Marcus Rashford and Danny Welbeck earned Gareth Southgate's side a comfortable win over the 2014 quarter-finalists, with several players making their claims for a starting spot in Russian Federation.

Jamie Vardy was denied by a flying Navas from point-blank range as England pressed their advantage, although Jack Butland made a good save to deny Johan Venegas after a rare Costa Rica break.
