Man United Set To Sign Portugese Defender

Man United Set To Sign Portugese Defender

English giants Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of confirming their first signing for next season, one that is bound to surprise most.

United manager Jose Mourinho feels the teenage Dalot has great potential, even though the defender has only made seven senior appearances for Porto since breaking through into the first team in February. The club's scouts apparently liked what they saw when they took in Porto's goalless draw versus Liverpool in UEFA Champions League competition at Anfield.

The Portugese defender is seen as an understudy to veteran defender Antonio Valencia, with the 32-year-old struggling with knee injuries over the past few seasons.

He has a £17.4m release clause in his contract, though United have yet to trigger it. Interest in Diogo Dalot has been present for a while now, with FC Porto rejecting multiple bids below the player's €20 million release clause.

The expected addition of Dalot comes at a time when United are preparing for the departure of Matteo Darmian to Juventus for around £10m, while Daley Blind is also set to leave Old Trafford this summer.

Dalot is primarily a right-back but can also play at left-back, another problem area for Mourinho.

Porto had plans to make him a regular part of their first team squad next season and he was being looked at as a natural successor to Ricardo Pereira, who left for Leicester City this summer.

And according to Goal, United are hopeful of landing Porto right-back Dalot before the end of the week.
