Israeli Builds 'Border' Wall near Gaza -- Underwater

People in the besieged Gaza Strip plan to break through the Israeli-imposed sea blockade on the impoverished sliver, while Tel Aviv tries to erect a sea barrier to bar desperate Gazans from breaching the decade-long siege.

Home to almost two million Palestinians, the Gaza Strip has been reeling under a crippling Israeli blockade since 2006 when Palestinian resistance group Hamas was voted to power in a parliamentary election.

The baby reportedly may not have been killed from tear gas shot by Israeli soldiers on the Palestinian protesters, part of a series of protests dubbed the "Great March of Return", but rather died from a preexisting condition.

Two of those killed were identified as 25-year-old Hussein al-Amour, 28-year-old Abdul Haleem al-Naqa, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

Israel's military confirmed the strike, saying it targeted an observation post in response to a bomb that had been placed next to the border fence overnight.

Islamic Jihad is the second-most powerful armed group in the Gaza Strip, after Hamas, which runs the Palestinian enclave.

Israeli aircraft struck two Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip on Saturday night, but there were no immediate reports of casualties, Palestinian security sources in the coastal territory said. Amnesty International has called the situation in Gaza "another horrific example of the Israeli military using excessive force and live ammunition in a totally deplorable way".

At least 118 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip since mass protests and clashes broke out on March 30, according to figures from the Gazan health ministry.

Tuesday's Gaza flotilla will coincide with the 8th anniversary of an Israeli attack on the Turkish "Mavi Marmara" flotilla, in which nine Turkish activists were killed when the Israeli navy attacked the vessel in global waters.

The Gaza border is Israel's most unstable area.

The Defense Ministry has started construction on an underwater barrier, which will stretch from the southern Israeli community of Zikim out into the Mediterranean to stave off Hamas infiltration by sea.
