Russian Federation meddled with goal of helping Trump, Senate Intel Committee says

When details of the meeting first emerged last summer, the Trump campaign was accused of colluding with Russian Federation, since Trump's son was promised dirt on Hillary Clinton.

After the meeting ended, Goldstone apologized profusely to Trump, Jr., "for what he believed was wasting our time".

Russian-American lobbyist Rinat Akhmetshin said the Russian lawyer leading the meeting, Natalia Veselnitskaya, was "disappointed" and "embarrassed" and felt like her efforts fell flat.

The panel's chairman, Senator Richard Burr, said in a statement that after 14 months of reviewing tradecraft and analytic work, "we see no reason to dispute the conclusions" by the intelligence community.

The transcripts provide a timeline of the days leading up to the meeting as well as misgivings about the appropriateness of a Russian lawyer meeting with a USA presidential campaign.

Publicist and music promoter Rob Goldstone "arranged the meeting at the request of pop singer Emin Agalarov", who told Trump, Jr., what they may receive.

"I am a music publicist".

President Trump and Trump Jr. initially said the meeting was about "adoptions", then modified their stories after Trump Jr. released the email thread showing he received his offer of help from the Russians. "I have no idea what this meeting was actually about".

The testimony also includes new details about Trump's long interest in building business ties to Russian Federation and a relationship with President Vladimir Putin.

When asked by lawmakers what he meant by that email, Trump Jr. said he was using a "colloquial term used to say, 'Hey, great, thank you'".

Ike Kaveladze, a Georgian-American businessman, told senators the subject of us sanctions against Russians came up during the controversial meeting.

There was no dirt disclosed in the meeting, instead Veselnitskaya wanted to talk about USA imposed sanctions on Russian Federation under Magnitsky Act.

As the majority party, Republicans control both the House and Senate committees, although the House panel has been criticized by Democrats and even some Republicans for a perceived failure to fully investigate alleged Russian meddling. He said the meeting bore that out.
