Trump Reveals Where He Will Meet North Korea's Kim Jong Un

The US president and North Korea's Kim Jong-un will finally sit down for a summit on June 12 in Singapore, Donald Trump has stated.

"We will both try to make it a very special moment for world peace", Trump stated.

Trump's announcement came hours after the arrival on US soil of three Americans previously held prisoner by North Korea.

Two of three Americans who arrived in the United States early Thursday morning after being freed from North Korea, where they had been imprisoned, have strong connections to the Southern California area.

U.S. officials had also considered holding the summit at the Korean demilitarized zone or in Mongolia, but ultimately settled on the city-state of Singapore as the location.

Moon is scheduled to visit the White House on May 22 to debrief Trump on his own meeting with Kim and discuss strategy ahead of Trump's summit.

Trump entered office as an emboldened North Korea developed new generations of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles capable of hitting the continental US. They were released as a goodwill gesture in the run up to the summit.

Mr Trump provided details for the first time about the history-making meeting between a sitting American president and the leader of North Korea over denuclearisation.

Tankian's appearance came the evening before a parliamentary vote that was expected to see Pashinyan elected as prime minister. Others wore camouflage T-shirts or caps mimicking Pashinyan's signature style (though he himself was in a dark suit).

The breakthrough came after landmark talks between North and South Korea. After being flown to a USA military base in Japan, the men were taken to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland. North Korea expects to see all 35,000 US troops withdraw from the Korean peninsula. "My proudest achievement will be - this is part of it - when we denuclearize that entire peninsula".

Trump reportedly said yesterday that the DMZ was no longer being considered, even though he had suggested it himself only a few weeks ago. "We've been successful on all fronts, thank goodness".

But Singapore also has rigorously sought to maintain good relationships with USA rivals, especially China, which has flexed its economic and military muscle as Beijing seeks to expand influence in Southeast Asia.

Until now, the only American released by North Korea during Mr Trump's presidency was Otto Warmbier, a 22-year-old university student who returned to the United States in a coma last summer after 17 months of captivity and died days later. Still, Kim's agreement to travel so far from the safety of Pyongyang - the farthest he's ever been as leader - could be seen as a concession by North Korea, should it happen. "Kim Jong-un reached a satisfactory consensus on the issues discussed with the US state secretary", the KCNA said.

Pence also told CBS he spoke Wednesday with the family of Otto Warmbier, an American detainee who died a year ago shortly after his release from North Korean captivity.

Pompeo, the most senior US official to meet with a North Korean leader since 2000, was making his second visit to the isolated nation in five weeks - and less than two weeks after becoming top diplomat. "They were happy to be with us on this plane to be sure", he said.
