An Ebola outbreak has been declared in the north-west of the Democratic Republic Congo.

The Nigeria football federation (NFF) may cancel the already scheduled worldwide friendly match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Democratic Republic of Congo following a fresh outbreak of Ebola in the central African country.

'This situation worries us and requires an immediate and energetic response'.

Seven people with a hemorrhagic fever, including two confirmed cases of Ebola, were hospitalized in Bikoro as of Thursday, according to Health Minister Oly Ilunga. These were sent to Institute National de Recherche Biomédicale in Kinshasa on 7 May 2018, where the two samples from Ikoko-Impenge were found positive by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) assay for Ebola virus on the same day.

He said in as much as Ghana has the means to contain it should an outbreak be reported, the world is continuously becoming a global village so no one can take a chance and say it is far away.

"After contact, the nurses began showing signs", Ngaleto said.

He says the new patients have been isolated.

However, in the last month, there has been 19 suspected cases of Ebola, with 16 confirmed.

Bikoro Hospital director Dr. Serge Ngalebato told The Associated Press earlier Thursday that nurses at the hospital were among the five suspected Ebola cases there.

The overall risk at the regional level is considered moderate because of the proximity to the Congo river, which links with both the capitals of the Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic. The ongoing epidemic is located in the Bikoro health zone, located in Equateur province, in western Democratic Republic of the Congo and on the border with the Republic of Congo. He said:"We are sending a signal to all entry points in the country". Similar measures helped Africa's most populous country contain the virus during the West African epidemic that began in 2013.

The health ministry said on Thursday it had dispatched a team of 12 experts to the area to try to trace new contacts of the disease, identify the epicentre and all affected villages and provide resources.

Ebola is most feared for the internal and external bleeding it can cause in its victims owing to damage done to blood vessels.
