Donald Trump lauds capture of five Islamic State commanders by Iraq

The list does not included the leader of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Iraq captured five Islamic State commanders after its intelligence services lured them into crossing from neighboring Syria, Iraqi state TV reported Wednesday.

Hashimi described Eithawi as a direct aide to Baghdadi, noting that he was responsible for money transfers to Daesh bank accounts in various countries.

Hashimi referred to Eithawi and Jamal as "the two most senior Islamic State figures ever to be captured alive".

Iraqi forces in coordination with US -backed Syrian forces have captured 5 senior Islamic State group (ISIS) leaders, the USA -led coalition mentioned Thursday in a press release.

It should be noted President Trump's CIA director nominee, Gina Haspel, is now the acting director at the agency.

According to the New York Times, a cross-border sting using intelligence from both the United States and Iraq has resulted in the capture of the five senior figures.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi has claimed that the deployment and installation of Iraqi troops in disputed territories between Iraq and the Kurdistan Region is conclusive.

Syrian Mohamed al-Qadeer, and two Iraqis, Omar al-Karbouli and Essam al-Zawbai, were also captured.

The Iraqi air force has carried out several air strikes since previous year against ISIS positions in Syrian territory.

"Iraq will continue airstrikes in Syria and will do more to eliminate Daesh group".

Last December, officials in Baghdad declared that Daesh's military presence in Iraq had been all but dismantled over operations backed by the US -led International Alliance.

ISIS last month restated their loyalty to Baghdadi, in what is believed to be their first public pledge of allegiance to him since his self-proclaimed caliphate in Syria and Iraq collapsed previous year.
