Severe weather awareness week: Severe Thunderstorms

Some sub severe storms could still hang out over areas north of I-70 and closer to the Kansas-Nebraska border, through the early overnight hours. You'll want to monitor conditions closely with us online, on air and via the Storm Team 12 app Tuesday, but the more expanded threat and the first mention of isolated tornado chances come Wednesday. Large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes are all in play with any storms that develop. The pattern change will bring several days of potentially significant severe weather in the central U.S. It will also spread spring warmth across almost two-thirds of the nation from Texas to New England.

Over 25 million Americans in the central USA are at risk for severe weather over the next three days and some of this severe weather could be significant. While damaging winds and large hail are the main threat, tornadoes remain possible.

Tuesday the warmth finally moves into the Northeast.

The parliament will gather for a special session on Tuesday to vote on the only officially nominated candidate, Nikol Pashinyan . Since 13 April, tens of thousands have come out to the streets daily in what Pashinyan has called a "velvet revolution".

Thunderstorm chances begin picking up Tuesday across the KVOE listening area, and so does the risk of stronger activity. Temperatures are on the rise already on Sunday morning for the entire Northern Plains, with temperatures nearing 80 degrees or higher all the way to North Dakota. By Tuesday, the warm weather will cover almost two-thirds of the country.

Ahead of the severe weather it will suddenly feel like summer for the Midwest and Northeast.

The combination of very warm temperatures, plenty of sunshine and relatively comfortable dew points will make the next few days spectacular in the Northeast. This has the potential to be the warmest air mass this region has seen since September of a year ago. High temperatures on both days will likely be almost 20 degrees above average.
