Trump wants Tester to quit over VA nominee role

Trump said as the large crowd inside an arena chanted "USA! USA!"

"At the end of the day, what this is about is Senator Tester actually doing the right thing and protecting veterans and doing his job to make sure someone who could have been harmful to an agency that is in charge of protecting veterans was not in a position to do that", the aide added. For the sake of brevity, I will leave you with Tom Nichols' explanation of the issue and why Tester's description of it was so disingenuous. And again on Friday, during a press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Trump called Tester "an absolute disgrace".

Jackson said he expected "tough questions" about his qualifications for the VA, "but I did not expect to have to dignify baseless and anonymous attacks on my character and integrity".

A spokesperson for Senate Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Johnny Isakson said he approved of Tester's handling of the accusations. Jackson's example serves as a warning to highly qualified people that Trump's opposition will go to great lengths to destroy them. I look forward to working with President Trump.

The President also boasted about his contribution to the recent detente between North and South Korea, which peaked during a summit on Friday which saw the Kim Jong-un and President Moon hold hands. Later at a campaign rally in Washington, Michigan, Trump suggested he had damaging information on Tester. We've been at war for 17 years. We're getting Alternative, which is an enormous deal. If he thinks I should not be sticking up for veterans, he's wrong.

And echoing one of his talking points on trade, Trump said he doesn't fault other countries and world leaders for what he sees as unfair or imbalanced trade and deficits.

Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, the top White House physician, is up for promotion to a two-star admiral - a step in his decorated military career that could be blocked because of the same allegations that sank his chances to be the next secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Tester had alleged that Jackson drank while working as a White House doctor and overprescribed medication, Vox reported, with the allegations published in a memo that appeared to prompt Jackson to withdraw his nomination.

Mulvaney: I Only Talked To Lobbyists Who Donated To My Congressional Campaign
On Tuesday, he admitted that, as a Congressman, he only met with lobbyists who gave him money - almost 90% of which come from banks and other businesses.

TRUMP: "What Jon Tester did to this man is a shame".

And President Donald Trump has repeatedly come to Jackson's defense. Mr. Trump said Tester - who faces a tough election in November in a state where Mr. Trump's approval rating is among the highest - "should resign".

Jackson and the president insist the allegations are false, but, in the end, neither was willing to fight them.

Those included working with Congress to get legislation passed that would allow veterans access to VA-sponsored care in the private sector, finalizing a contract to update the agency's medical record system and "working with the White House to get Admiral Ronny Jackson confirmed by the U.S. Senate".

"We should find out if there's merit to these allegations", he said. Trump explained that his administration had already obtained $1.6 billion in funding from Congress for improvements along the southern border.

Trump told Fox & Friends over the phone on Thursday that he liked Jackson as a candidate in part because he isn't a politician.

"Kanye West gets it", the president says after touting milestones in black and Hispanic unemployment that have been achieved during his tenure in office.
