Brandon Belt sets Major League Baseball record with 21-pitch at-bat

Brandon Belt sets Major League Baseball record with 21-pitch at-bat

The 21 pitches in a single at-bat were the highest since records have been kept in 1988, passing the mark of 20 set by Houston Astros infielder Ricky Gutierrez against Indians pitcher Bartolo Colon in June 1998.

The pitch chart looked incredible.

The at-bat finally ended when Belt flew out to right fielder Kole Calhoun.

Barria, making just his second major league start after winning his debut April 11 against the Texas Rangers, had to work his way out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the first inning. "Belt said that", Maldonado said.

At one point during the at-bat, Belt chatted with catcher Martin Maldonado.

Belt was greeted with high-fives when he returned to the dugout.

5 takeaways from Wolves-Rockets Game 3
This one likely falls under the total as well thanks to Minnesota cooling off from outside and Houston playing tighter defense. Houston's offense has been mediocre thus far in this series after being historically good during the regular season.

Below is the full at bat involving Giants player Brandon Belt. "Let the medical staff do what they can do and then at the appropriate time, everybody will let us know when it's OK to go ahead and reach out and go see him".

Angels shortstop Andrelton Simmons offered his take. I was really exhausted after that. In all, Belt saw 40 pitches. In fact, as the at-bat unfolded, they seemed to become even more resolute.

Angels pitching coach Charles Nagy made a mound visit to check on Barria after the Belt at-bat. "Like, this can't be happening", Maldonado said. Barria had thrown nine pitches to Joe Panik, who hit a leadoff single, before throwing 21 to Belt. Thirty-eight percent of his 77 pitches Sunday were to Belt.

Barria was charged with two runs on five hits and a walk in two-plus innings.

On Tuesday, Belt singled with two outs in the eighth inning to break up Corbin's no-hitter in Phoenix.
