Guests start arriving for Barbara Bush's funeral

Barbara Bush died Tuesday at age 92.

To celebrate his wife's love of books and literacy advocacy, George H.W. Bush reportedly wearing his "book socks".

The late former First Lady Barbara Bush's funeral at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston on Saturday was attended by "thousands" of reported guests, including familiar faces of White Houses past and present. He said he would watch the service; it is not usual practice for a sitting president to attend a First Lady's funeral because of security concerns. Nearby, two other former presidents - Bill Clinton and Barack Obama - along with their wives and current first lady Melania Trump were seated in the same pew. Bush went to a home for infected infants and hugged the children there, as well as an adult male patient.

Bush, 93, sat in a wheelchair at the front of the sanctuary, next to daughter Dorothy Bush Koch who at times put her arm against him. It began: "Will you marry me?" The parking lots near Texas Avenue and Harvey Road quickly filled with families and groups of friends coming to honor Mrs.

From there, it turned toward the back of the library, where the procession came to an end.

Meacham said that when he told the first lady how that made him feel, Mrs.

"It was extraordinary how she managed their rambunctious household ..."

She was modest and had a joking mannerism at times.

Barbara Bush will be laid to rest in a gated plot at her husband's presidential library at the university in College Station, Texas.

"She spoke from her heart and never fearing what people would think and she was also such a great mother". By the way, she was attractive until the day she died.

She finished her remarks with, "We will see this good and faithful servant again one day".

The service also included eulogies from Bush's close friend Susan Baker and historian Jon Meacham.

Jeb Bush noted, "She was our teacher and role model on what it means to live a life of meaning".

"She was candid and comforting, steadfast and straight forward, honest and loving". Her not curling her hair.

"She was solid. stern but warm, [and] she had such resolve."

Her foundation raised over $110 million over the course of more than 30 years.

Good evening and thank you for joining us. "I love that. She was solid. stern but warm, [and] she had such resolve, even though she was so wonderfully warm with people".

"She was a point of light", he said.

The former Florida governor remembered his mother as strict but with a sense of humor. The elder Bushes have 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
