FAA orders fan blade inspections after Southwest engine explosion

The documents, which are on a USA federal website and were viewed by Reuters, reveal the wrangling over previously proposed safety checks on CFM engines that are now the focus of investigations following a fatal engine explosion this week. After the plane window shattered next to her, Jennifer was almost ejected from the plane.

She was hauled inside by her fellow passengers nearby but she later died after sustaining critical head injuries.

Passengers are calling Captain Tammie Jo Shults a hero for safely landing the plane.

A man who was onboard a stricken Southwest Airlines flight in the United States, on which one woman died, has been trolled on social media for livestreaming what he thought may have been the last minutes of his life.

"Obviously, God needed her", she said.

With his parents and wife next to him on Thursday, Needum spoke in a quiet voice to reporters, but declined to provide further detail on what happened in the back of the plane out of respect for Riordan's family.

"All I could think of in that moment was, I need to communicate with my loved ones", passenger Marty Martinez told ABC's "Good Morning America" on Wednesday. The anonymous passenger continued, "They were fighting to get her back in".

Jennifer Riordan was a 43-year-old mother-of-two and executive for Wells Fargo bank in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Investigators said the blade that broke off midflight and triggered the fatal accident was showing signs of metal fatigue - microscopic cracks from repeated use.

Federal investigators said that initial findings show that Tuesday's emergency was caused by a fan blade that snapped off, leading to debris hitting the Southwest Airlines plane and a woman being partially blown out a window.

CFM engines are made by CFM International, a joint venture between GE Aviation and France-based Safran Aircraft Engines.

West, who returned to Twitter earlier this week almost a year after deleting his account, said little about the new albums. The fact that Kanye and Cudi have a project together won't be a major surprise to any eagle-eyed fans.

The FAA proposed making the recommendation mandatory in August but never issued a final decision.

It added that ultrasonic inspections would be conducted on fan blades on some CFM56-7B engines after they reach a certain number of takeoffs and landings. "All we could do was stay calm, because if we didn't then there would be even more panic in the plane", Mackey told KTVQ.

NTSB investigators look at a Southwest plane that suffered an engine blow-out that led to the death of a woman mid-air. "The engine family has accumulated more than 350 million flight hours as one of the most reliable and popular jet engines in airline history".

Southwest is ordering inspections of its entire fleet.

Other Pennsylvania residents said they were stunned when they learned that those were fragments from the Southwest plane.

The left engine inlet separated from the engine during the flight.

At Wisner Law Firm in Geneva, Illinois, clients who are parties in litigation related to an American Airlines engine that exploded on a Chicago runway in 2016 have been calling to ask how Tuesday's incident might affect their case, according to Alexandra Wisner, a partner at the firm.

A team from the National Transportation Safety Board reports that a preliminary inspection shows a metal fan blade failed, the same thing that happened two years ago. More than 8,000 CFM56-7B are in service on Boeing 737 aircraft, according to CFM.

FAA issued a certificate of registration in 2000 to the Southwest 737 that experienced the latest inflight engine failure.

Southwest Airlines Chairman of the Board and CEO Gary Kelly commended the plane's crew for its quick action during a press conference on Tuesday.
