Commonwealth Games officials apologise over 'disastrous' closing ceremony

But I just wish we could have had that moment.

A diverse and contemporary ceremony of music, lights and dance with the words and imagery of indigenous Australia very much at its heart brought an end to the XXI Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast on Sunday.

NAN also reports that three Nigerians entered semi-final of 100m men while two of them got to final.

In a series of Twitter posts Monday, Beattie said the ceremony had not worked out as organizers planned.

During the broadcast, Seven commentators Johanna Griggs and Basil Zempilas slated the bungled event, with Griggs visibly "furious" by the lack of athletes pouring in to be led by flag bearer Kurt Fearnley. "And, to be honest, so have we".

In an unusual move, the television rights-holders Channel Seven joined in the criticism, saying the ceremony "had not lived up to expectations". Earlier, with 101 medals overall, India had finished second on the medals table when the nation had hosted the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. "We got that wrong".

The closing ceremony also saw a surprise when former Jamaican athlete and multiple Olympic and Commonwealth Games champion, Usian Bolt was introduced.

Israel Offers 'Full Support' For US-Led Airstrikes On Syria
Israel has mounted air strikes in Syria on a regular basis, targeting suspected weapons shipments to Lebanese Hezbollah. Asked how much warning Israel had received, the official told Reuters: "Between 12 and 24 hours, I believe".

She said that excellent infrastructure spread across its network nationwide, and a stellar team of in-house coaches and support staff, had given the RSPB an unparallelled ecosystem for 29 sporting disciplines under its belt.

"The messages I really love have come from parents of kids with disabilities who say their child has just lost a leg to cancer and they want to be like me because they see us on TV, because I never had para-athletes I could watch", Cole said.

"For me, the Commonwealth Games were a stepping stone for worlds next year, and worlds are a stepping stone for the Olympics". Australians took to social media in large numbers to criticize the ceremony.

Griggs said half the stadium had emptied during the ceremony and most of the athletes had already left. "They were way too long tonight".

This morning, Commonwealth Games chairman Peter Beattie went to air on Seven's Sunrise program to issue a mea culpa to both the broadcaster and its viewers, explaining the coverage flaws were due to staging decisions by the Games' organisers and event organisers, Jack Morton Events.

Gold Coast, Apr 14 (PTI) The legendary M C Mary Kom (48kg) became Indias first woman boxer to claim a Commonwealth Games gold before men joined the gold quest through Gaurav Solanki (52kg) and Vikas Krishan (75kg) as the team rejoiced its best ever medal haul at the mega-event here today.
