Mystery Mega Millions victor claims $533M jackpot: 'It's life-changing money'

He revealed himself as the mystery victor during Friday's news conference at New Jersey Lottery headquarters in Trenton.

Wahl, 47 of Vernon, New Jersey, had previously claimed his prize, but state lottery officials had kept his identity secret until Friday.

The New Jersey victor of Mega Millions' $533 million jackpot from March 31 was revealed at state lottery headquarters in Trenton on Friday as 47-year-old Richard Wahl.

Wahl bought the ticket that hit the $533 million jackpot on March 30, a day before the drawing, at a Lukoil gas station and mini-mart in Riverdale, New Jersey. "Family, friends, people in need so we are going to try and do some good things with it". The odds of winning a Mega Millions jackpot is 1 in 303 million.

Mega Millions is played in 44 states and Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Wahl's win was the fourth biggest in the game's history. He said he first misread his chosen numbers on the lottery ticket, and only realized he won after looking at the numbers a second time.

Philadelphia Flyers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins NHL Playoffs Series Preview & Pick
It is an understatement to say some of the Philadelphia Flyers special teams had a poor season, mainly on the penalty kill. But, just as Crosby and the Penguins bring out the emotions in Flyers fans, they also get under the skin of the players.

He chose to take the jackpot as a lump sum cash payout, which lottery officials said comes out to $324.6 million.

Wahl, who moved to Vernon, New Jersey, from MI with his family in late July for a job opportunity, waited two weeks before coming forward to claim the historic prize.

Wahl explained,"For us, we believe god has a plan".

He bought the winning ticket at a Lukoil gas station in northern New Jersey and said the numbers were machine picked.
