Trump believes that Pompeo will be a great Secretary of state

"I continue to hold that view", Pompeo said Thursday during his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

In a letter sent to the committee on Monday, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt called on Pompeo to repudiate some of his views.

Appearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Thursday, Pompeo was expected to face questions over his past positions on torture, allegations of Islamophobia and a failure to disclose dealings with a Chinese company, according to reports.

Pompeo, who now serves as Central Intelligence Agency director, responded: "Senator, each and every human - not just Americans - each and every human being has an obligation to push back against the extremist use of violence, from whatever faith".

Booker was referencing a 2015 speech when, as a congressman, Pompeo cited a prayer by the Rev. Joe Wright: "America had worshiped other Gods and called it multiculturalism". "Each of those tools that Vladimir Putin is using, we need to do our best to make sure he doesn't succeed". He lamented the "demoralizing" vacancies at the top echelons of the department during Tillerson's tenure and said he planned to fill those vacancies, asking the Senate's help to get nominees confirmed.

Mr Pompeo said Iran was "on the march and has paid too low a price for its unsafe behaviour".

Menendez engaged in a tense exchange with Pompeo about a conversation he had with Trump and National Intelligence Director Daniel Coates in March 2017, in which the president seemed to be asking for an intervention into former FBI Director James Comey's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation. Pompeo says bad behavior by Russian Federation is responsible for the poor relationship between Washington and Moscow. He also co-sponsored a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that would have allowed states to refuse to recognize the marriages of gays and lesbians. Asked whether he'd resign if Trump tried to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, Pompeo said, "I haven't given that question any thought".

USA budget deficit to hit $1 trillion by 2020
They did this because the $1.5 trillion budget limit did not allow them enough money to cut all the taxes they wanted to cut. The Congressional Budget Office's projections for President Trump's tax cuts are not good.

Trump has gone without a top USA diplomat for almost a month.

"With this oath, I would commit to defend the exceptionalism enshrined in our Constitution, which provides for our obligation to engage in diplomacy and model the very best of America to the world", he told lawmakers.

Pompeo said he's optimistic the U.S. According to the paper, when the meeting was over, Trump told Pompeo and Coats to stay in the room, and the president proceeded to complain about the Russian Federation investigation, which was being led by then-FBI Director James Comey.

Pompeo said he believes the president has the authority to strike Syria in response to the suspected chemical attack.

"It depends, clearly, if we're close", said Pompeo, who was one of the most outspoken critics of the accord. "This administration has taken a much stronger approach, a much more aggressive posture with respect to countering Iran", Pompeo said.

Pompeo - who once hinted he would not be bothered if North Korea's Kim were assassinated - was also asked whether he favors United States military action to overthrow the nuclear weapon-armed regime in Pyongyang. Pompeo declined to provide any details about his advice.

Paul noted that Pompeo earlier in the hearing, in responding to a question about the constitutionality of ordering military actions without congressional authorization, had said presidents have done so in the past. "He wants fewer American citizens in Syria".
