Shohei Ohtani loses ideal game in seventh inning, finishes with 12 strikeouts

The A's have yet to win a series this season and have now dropped four out of their last six games.

Upton's homer capped a five-run seventh inning for the Angels and highlighted their comeback from an early 6-0 deficit.

The Angels' Mike Trout singles to right in the fourth inning against Oakland in Anaheim on Sunday, April 8, 2018. He was ideal through 19 Oakland batters Sunday, at which point, combined with a debut outing that also came against the A's, he had retired 27 straight hapless hitters.

Orioles 8, Yankees 7, 12 innings • In New York, Brad Brach escaped his own bases-loaded, no-outs jam in the 12th inning, getting his second save when Aaron Judge grounded into a double play and Giancarlo Stanton struck out.

Andrew Triggs (0-0, 1.80) is scheduled to make his second start of the season for Oakland (3-6).

Graveman has struggled out of the gate with a 9.45 ERA in three starts.

Trout crushed it, sending it sailing over the center-field fence, over the ficus trees behind the wall and over the railing that forms the lower border of Bo Jackson Country. He connected on his third home run of the season.

Rogue eagle lands on Mariners pitcher James Paxton at Twins game
As its handler rushed towards the pitcher, the bird got off the ground again, flew towards Paxton and landed on his shoulder. But "Big Maple", as he's called, didn't know what would be in store for him from this eagle.

Sure these are ridiculously small sample sizes - two starts pitching, and 19 plate appearances batting - but Ohtani's major league numbers are sublime: a 2.08 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 13 innings, while hitting.389/.421/.889. San Francisco Giants shortstop C.J. Hinojosa received a 50-game suspension following a second positive test for a drug of abuse. He's ideal through six innings. So when I'm watching Shohei Ohtani, I am looking at a representative of a diaspora I proudly belong to - and this is despite being a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan since birth, which dictates I should not love an Angels player as much as I love Ohtani.

Ohtani has appeared in six of the Angels' 10 games, and his impact has been undeniable, whether on the mound or at the plate.

"He got off to a good start, the crowd got into it (and) he got a little bit of a generous strike zone, all of that", Oakland manager Bob Melvin said. It's going to happen with every player.

The Athletics have gained 0.1 units and are 3-3 ATS when facing a right-handed starting pitcher this year.

In addition to placing Ramirez on the DL, the Angels also optioned Akeel Morris to Triple-A Salt Lake and recalled fellow right-handers Eduardo Paredes and Felix Pena from their top minor-league club. Matt Joyce homered in the ninth. He exhibited his pitching prowess a few days later - throwing one of the nastiest sliders I've ever seen and masterfully playing with pitch speeds that ranged from 75 miles per hour to 95 miles per hour - and clinched his first win.

The first two weeks of the fantasy baseball season always are filled with excitement.
