Kyrie Irving done for the season, according to report

"To ensure that no infection remains in the knee, the screws will be removed", the Celtics said.

Without Irving, the Celtics will have to lean more on Horford, who is having an outstanding season of his own.

As it was, Irving was expected to miss the first round of the playoffs, with the hope he could rejoin the lineup if the Celts advanced.

The Celtics will likely head into the playoffs as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Boston Celtics are now the 2nd seed out of the Eastern conference despite Irving not having played since March 11. Clearly, this isn't the news Celtics fans, or the Celtics themselves, or certainly Kyrie and his family, were hoping to hear.

Irving was traded to Boston in August.

The Cavaliers selected Irving with the first overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. In exchange, the Cavs received Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder and Ante Zizic.

Intel Stock Hit By Report Apple Switching To Own Chips For Macs
No comment has been forthcoming from Apple , while Intel noted that it avoids commenting on "speculation about our customers". It has outperformed by 33.10% the S&P500. 30,000 shares valued at $1.35M were sold by YOFFIE DAVID B on Monday, October 30.

Irving's talent is undeniable.

But Boston will have to decide whether to offer Irving a max contract next summer. This will now be the second time in Irving's career he will miss key playoff action to due knee injuries. They have four regular season games left. It was thought the procedure would alleviate some of the pain temporarily, and Irving would return at some point in the playoffs.

"We'll cross that bridge when we get there against anybody we're supposed to play".

But that is a decision Boston doesn't have to think about right now. But it is a blow to a Celtics team that had been playing well despite a run of recent injuries to key players.

Now that the Celtics are a virtual walkover, LeBron James' path to the Finals may be absent of a single superstar.

The Heat have a pretty clear path to sixth place. But whatever success Boston has in the playoffs will be overshadowed by wondering what could have been had the team played at full strength. Teams ahead of them include the Philadelphia 76ers, Toronto Raptors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Houston Rockets, and Golden State Warriors. The Wizards then have two games against tanking teams, the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magic, sandwiched around a game at home Tuesday against, yes, the Celtics.
