Cambridge Analytica 'Whistleblower' Claims Predecessor May Have Been Poisoned

Shares in Facebook itself remain more than 17% down since mid-March, when reports emerged that political consultancy firm Cambridge Analytica - which was hired by Donald Trump's presidential campaign team - had allegedly illegally harvested information from 50 million Facebook users. "We can use their experience, they can also use our experience... there's nothing wrong with that", he said, while responding to a question on why CA listed the 2010 Bihar elections as part of its work portfolio when it didn't exist as a company then. "This is what modern colonialism looks like", he wrote.

In the latest revelation, Wylie has named Janata Dal (United) as one of the clients of the Cambridge Analytica.

Wylie said SCL India has a database of 600 districts and seven lakh villages.

The earliest work referred to was during the 2003 Rajasthan elections, when it carried out two pieces of work focused on a "major State" party's "organisational strength" and also the voting population, including their attitudes and behaviour. The action comes a day after the whistleblower, Christopher Wylie, revealed that his former employers worked with the Congress in India on some regional projects.

"They (Cambridge Analytica) worked extensively in India".

He said, "I believe their client was Congress".

"I've been getting a lot of requests from Indian journalists". Union IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had warned Facebook against any attempt at influencing elections in India.

Christopher Wylie says Cambridge Analytica "don't care whether or not its legal as long as it gets the job done".

The slides put out by Wylie also claim that SCL India's head office was in 155, Niti Khand 1, Indirapuram, Ghaziabad.

Driver tried to run over soldiers in Varces, near Grenoble, southeast France
French police have arrested a man who tried to run over a group of soldiers in south-eastern France . The gendarme was killed by the Moroccan-born assailant.

He said Tuesday that it had previously been involved in Nigerian elections, and had an Israeli company called Black Cube to hack private health data from current Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Zuckerberg has agreed to appear before US Congress over the Cambridge Analytica scandal, while the UK-based firm's suspended chief executive Christopher Nix is due to appear for a second time on 17 April.

SCL, Cambridge Analytica's predecessor, had access to secret UK information and was singled out for praise by the UK Ministry of Defence for the training it provided to a psychological operations warfare group, according to documents newly released by MPs.

The British company is also accused of using dirty tricks in other election campaigns, including in Kenya where political strategist Dan Muresan, 32, was found dead in 2012 after a deal "went sour". "We said the server should be hosted in India only".

A non-partisan watchdog group has filed complaints with the Department of Justice and the Federal Election Commission alleging that the data firm Cambridge Analytica violated USA election law by having foreign nationals involved in the decisions of political committees.

But Nikhil Pahwa, a technology expert, said that signs that the company worked in India are worrying.

In addition to this, Facebook has promised that once its investigation is complete, it will start notifying users of the social network service whose data may have been compromised in the Cambridge Analytica controversy.

In an interview with CNN, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said Facebook was committed to stopping interference in the USA midterm election in November and elections in India and Brazil.
