Thousands join nationwide gun control rally in Houston

The Parkland students weren't ready to change the subject; they were ready to change history. "These kids spend the majority of their time with you".

A total of more than 800 communities in the US and around the world will take part in the "March for our Lives" on Saturday, but the heart of the event will be in the Nation's Capital, where more than a half a million people are expected to gather all in the name of ending gun violence.

They will join an estimated 500,000 marchers expected in Washington, D.C., and countless others at March for Our Lives events in many locations across the USA and around the world - including at least eight in Wisconsin - to protest deadly school shootings and to convince lawmakers to enact gun legislation.

A lone gunman stormed the halls of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and took the lives of 17 people in Parkland, Florida, on February 14. "Everywhere you go, there is a threat of guns".

Teachers travelled from across the country for the sprawling protest in the District. "It was very anxiety-raising", she said, recalling how students and staff had to shelter in place.

We held a moment of silence for those who had lost their lives to gun violence. "I just want safety for our schools and action to be brought".

Thousands are also expected to protest gun violence in the Philadelphia area Saturday.

Participants with the "March for Our Lives" rally crossed Queen Street today as they walked toward the Prince Kuhio Federal Building.

"I'm hoping things can get back to normal at some point", Milleret said. I also have classmates who knew the victims. "Why should you have to think about that?" Being a student has become a risk.

'Regardless if I can vote or not, it (gun violence) is the most important issue affecting me and the most important issue in the country right now, Dutcher said.
