'American Idol': Judge new judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie

She explained what happened after he got his ticket to Hollywood. Compounding the issue was the fact that Trevor admitted to a crush on Katy since he was a kid, and even his girlfriend was supportive of his dream to sing for the judge. His tone was unique, and he was charming, bringing a soulful sound to the song. I wrote down in my notes that he was the best of the guys up to that point in this episode - and then seconds later, Katy Perry said the same exact thing. But in terms of selecting a thoroughly modern singer able to lead, endear and entertain, Katy feels like the smart bet and certainly earns every penny she got. I found myself very surprised by this performance - in a great way. Dare we say, her handling of Sinatra like-crooner Zach D'onofrio would have given Harry Connick Jr. a run for his money. Francisco chronicled his story from the very beginning, revealed that just weeks after moving to Music City, he was T-boned by a vehicle while riding his bike. Katy, who donned a sparkly minidress and high heels, enthusiastically danced while contestant Michelle Sussett, who hailed from Miami, belted out Selena's "Techno Cumbia". It's a powerful display that moves Katy to tears.

Who do you think gave the best audition of the night? It goes without saying that David is on his way to Hollywood.
