The Crown's Claire Foy was paid less than her co-star Matt Smith

The Crown's Claire Foy was paid less than her co-star Matt Smith

At the INTV Conference in Jerusalem yesterday, producers acknowledged that Mr Smith was paid more due to his Doctor Who fame, despite Ms Foy having the leading role in the historical drama.

In comments quoted by Variety, executive producer Suzanne Mackie insisted: "Going forward, no one gets paid more than the Queen".

Scriptwriter Peter Morgan revealed last month that he's struggling to find an actor to fill MATT SMITH's shoes as PRINCE PHILIP.

After all, she IS playing the person wearing the crown, so shouldn't she get the biggest pay cheque?

Drew Brees reportedly re-signs with Saints for two years, $50 million
He is on pace to pass both Peyton Manning and Brett Favre in 2018 to become the NFL's all-time passing yardage leader. The deal includes $27 million in guaranteed money and could pay out as much as $50 million through the 2019 season.

Claire Foy, however, won huge critical acclaim for her performance Queen Elizabeth II, scooping SAG awards and Golden Globe awards for the role.

Mackie attributed the discrepancy to his experience starring in the iconic British program "Doctor Who" prior to joining the cast of "The Crown". According to Variety, Foy received $40,000 for each episode of the show that cost $7 million to make one hour of television.

This will come as a huge shock for fans of the show as Foy has been nominated for and won countless roles for her fantastic acting as the Queen. Now, I may be overthinking it a bit, but shouldn't the entire REASON for a show be paid at least as much as the secondary characters?

In an exclusive interview Olivia, who starts filming series three of the Netflix hit in July, said: "I'm really nervous to take over something that's been so great - it's scary". Pay disparity is a major issue in Hollywood and recently All the Money in the World filmmakers were criticised for paying little to Michelle Williams compared to Mark Wahlberg. Details of Matt Smith's own salary weren't disclosed at the time of writing, though Netflix has vowed to stamp out The Crown's own gender pay gap before Olivia Colman headlines season 3.
